Most of these people that you are mentioning fall in the category of *Trolls*. Internet trolls have been around a long time and they flourish here. Some of those may actually be atheists...but they are trolls first and foremost. Don't worry about soul-searching when dealing with them. I'll post a link to Wikipedia's article on "internet trolls". You'll recognize many of the people you are talking about in their definitions.
In case you don't want to look at the full article, here is a quick blurb to give you the flavour:
In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, often in the form of posting messages that are inflammatory, insulting, incorrect, inaccurate, or off-topic, with the intent of provoking a reaction from others. Trolls can also be existing members of such a community that rarely post and often contribute no useful information to the thread, but instead make argumentative posts in an attempt to discredit another person, more often than not based on what they thought was said rather than what was actually said by the other person, concentrating almost exclusively on facts irrelevant to the point of the conversation, with the intent of provoking a reaction from others. The latter are primarily, though not always juveniles from other countries who don't have enough understanding of the language to realize that there is nothing to argue about, the points are truly irrelevant to the conversation, or they just don't care and are simply trying to cause the other poster grief with their frivolous and irrelevant arguments.

That's kind of an interesting line of thought you have there. Certainly the behaviour of a lot of the people who protest the strongest about their "christianity" engage in some pretty unchristian behaviours.
As to the professed atheists (and christians) who make their aggressive pitch on Q & A, they are but a handful, compared to aallllll the anonymous believers or non-believers out there who don't make any "pitch" at all, but just go quietly and unobtrusively about their daily lives, believing (or I guess, not believing) whatever it is they do or don't believe. When you go to the grocery store, you can't tell by looking at the gal who checks you out what her personal beliefs are. When you g et a water leak, you don't call a Plumbing Service and ask for them to be sure and send you a guy whose religious beliefs conform to your own. LOL. Ya want somebody who knows what the heck he's doing plumbingwise, and when he comes to your house and completes the job, the two of you are never going to g et into conversation, argument or otherwise, about what particular "spiritual camp" you belong to, and why.
Now, Q&A is a site designed to invite people from all walks of life to express their own personal thoughts, views, beliefs, ideas and opinions on all kinds of subjects, and receive back the input of others in reply. Because of this, it's obviously going to attract all sorts of kooks, fanatics, religious extremists and "agents provocateurs" (people who just wanna stir something up, lol). By very definition therefore, such people are NOT representative of the millions of others - believers and non-believers alike - who just get on with their lives, playing whatever role it is they play in the world, and never shoving their personal beliefs up the noses of others.

The answers one sees in this forum represent a triumph of flippancy over rigor. These flippant persons that answer tend to have not formally studied the matters being asked for several years; rather they enjoy mocking or proving that they really have no value to add to the answer.
Funny thing is, you don't see any persons of faith piling on or being flippant in forums that are focused upon atheism, such as the Usenet talk.origins forum at
http://groups.google.com/group/talk.origins/topics?hl=en
Sadly, the questions are sometimes poorly formed or are laden with underlying bias that tells the reader that no cogent and rigorous answer will satisfy the asker.
For atheists to claim any sort of moral code is to, by definition, accept that a higher moral authority exists. How is that possible if one believes in "nothing"?
Yet, literally, for atheists, having Aunt Betty over for dinner is just as easily Having Aunt Better for dinner, as there is no moral absolutes in atheist philosophy. Unfortunately, those in this forum who are the loudest and most flippant, have not taken the time to seek formal learning of what they so easily espouse. They merely parrot back what they have heard or read without any synthesis of the issues.
Atheists, like all of the non-righteous before God have had their will to reason clouded by the sinful nature that befell all mankind at the Fall. Hence, they are unable to reason properly and see the truth of God's revelation.
Want to know why atheists hang around this forum so much? See See Erika R's excellent and cogently written answer at: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvfsfC_oV9b71eDhBO9.t8jsy6IX?qid=20070214222750AABkZwl&show=7#profile-info-wudNsFgZaa
Just keep asking questions in an objective manner and you will sometimes get useful responses. I try to answer questions so structured with reasoned and rigorous responses.

Anyways, I think its almost as if they want a little peice
I read Erika R's answer and it was anything but excellent and cogent...that sentence above proves it.
Have you read any of Bryan J Warner's(CHRISTIAN WARRIOR) posts? If that's not angry, I don't know what is. Please try to look at both sides of this. I'm not mad...at you, at god, or anything. Why should I be mad at something that doesn't exist for me? That's just silly. I think what some atheists get angry about is being told they are going to hell and suffer forever unless they become just like you. Ewwwwww!

A singularly convinced person that he is an atheist is not angry.
Frustrated, perhaps . . since that person can not turn over the mystery of life, the universe and why he is HERE to God or any other source with a "cover-your-butt" just in case attitude - way out of a confusion.
We are simply here, living, dying, wanting to understand, but as of yet we are far from having all the answers . . so why be angry about anything or with anyone?

The best analogy I can give to try to explain why a lot of "non-believers" seem upset a lot is this:
Imagine you're with a friend, and that friend seems to think something is bothering you. You are in a perfectly good mood, but your friend keeps asking, "What's wrong?" At first you say, "Nothing's wrong." Then you start to get a little annoyed that they keep bringing it up. After a while you get to the point where you say, "You want to know what's wrong? The fact that you keep asking me what's wrong! Just shut up already."
It's sort of like that.

What in case you had disciples of Zeus influencing how regulations have been framed in this u . s . a ., knocking on your door and telling you which you will by no ability pass the River Styx and not using a private relationship with Zeus, examining "In Zeus We have faith" on the money, watching human beings loss of existence and killing others interior the call of Zeus, on your total existence, and you by no ability believed in Zeus, in reality, you concept Zeus grow to be in basic terms a fantasy, so all this angst and death and drama have been all thoroughly pointless. does not you get purely slightly irritable? EDIT: that's not a terrible analogy, through fact the form you sense approximately Zeus, is the way we sense approximately even though God you take place to worship. Sorry, i do no longer understand if that's Vishnu or Allah or the God of Abraham, or Jesus the actual Manifestation of the wasteland God Yahweh. i'm not sure which god you adhere to, yet please attempt to appreciate that the wonderful way you sense approximately Zeus, i.e., that he's fake, is the wonderful way we additionally sense approximately your god. you're a Zeus atheist. we are Zeus + your god atheists.

The question that arises in my mind when I look at your question is: Why can't people use the plural "atheists" when they are asking such questions as yours.
I thought at first that it was a rare sort of error, but it seems to happen more frequently than chance would allow. I find it fascinating. My suspicion is that people who consistently make this error are operating on the assumption that there is one monolithic ATHEIST against whom they are fighting some noble battle.
If we consider that language is the material with which we frame our thoughts, we might want to be a bit more careful in how we use it.

We are only responsible for our own selves and our own actions and behaviors they are responsible for theirs. Although I must say that if my conversion had been left up to Christians it would never of happened many Christians are lost in their own self righteousness and do turn others away from the Lord, they don't realize that is what they are doing but they do it frequently, God intervened and helped me to convert. Jesus is my church and those who are true believers are the members of this church, it is not a church that is a building down the street, I can go anytime, anywhere to my church and everyone is welcome, come as you are.
