Car is imported from Japan. I have found the oil pan and dipstick for the engine oil but cannot find anything for the trans. Some cars over here in England share the motor oil with the transmission and I was curious if this is the case

You have to crawl under the vehicle to check and or change the gear oil in the transmission. It does not share the same oil, if it did the transmission would overheat because engine oil isn't heavy enough to properly lubricate the transmission.

MR2 engines are the same worldwide. ( due to it's mid engine lay out) The lower sales and profit margins on 2 seater, "exotic" mid engine sports cars would prohibit Toyota from reducing it's profit margin on this vehicle. I owned two 1st gen MR2's, a one new the first year they were introduced in the U.S. a new one the last year of the mk1. I wish I still had them both. They were exceptional cars...and I was a car trading Idiot.

if you have a manual transmission, i.e. a 5 Speed, it doesn't have a dipstick. it has a heavier oil that is usally not changed/checked near as often as automatic transmissions
