some of the pricey plugs are no better than the factory ones

i had a 1996 Jetta 2.0 and purchased those split fire platinum spark plugs (the $8 each ones) and didnt notice any difference whatsoever.

your best bet is to buy a set of plugs from the dealership, they will have what the factory designed to be in your car, they will be pregapped to the correct gap, and it will be worry free and easy as pie.

also, dont be fooled by the "28mm silicon, high spark conductivity" spark plug wires...you get the same performance from a set of factory replacements, and the factory ones might be cheaper. there is a couple of years where VW didnt sell plug wires as a kit, they were sold "each" so the cost was outrageous...if the silicon wires are cheaper, go for it, but you probably wont get any better performance.

good luck!

Don't waist your time with expensive plugs, they are not worth it for your application. Germanautoparts.com has a complete tune up kit for under $100. This includes plugs, wires, rotor, and new distributer cap. This is the kit I put on my 2.0. Never get the bosch platniums they will ruin the car.

If you go with Bosch plugs, you'll be just fine. A higher priced spark plug isn't going to make your car run faster or better. They may last longer, but thats about it. Just don't go with an extreme cheap plug from an off brand.

I always love this question, a spark plug has no moving parts. its only job is to ignite an air fuel mixture of 17.3 to 1 . when the mixture is ignited it pushes the piston down and the crankshaft turns. the question on plugs is will a firecracker {the equilivent of combustion in your motor} be any better if you lite it with a match or an oxy-accelitene torch. I would stick with what the people who designed the car with recomend. pick up a set of plugs at the dealer, withc are probley bosch.

How many mid priced spark plugs can you buy? Bosch plugs are good. You are gonna change them out in a year anyways when you do your next tune up.

actually higher power plugs can wreck the motor. they burn hotter than the manufacturers intended. just go with the manufacturers recommendation on plug size. the brand is a matter of preference. ive had luck with cheaper models like champion and autolite.

Don't buy any of the american plugs for this car. Stick with DENSO or NGK

Not sure if they ship to canada.

basically, to answer your question... no you don't need those plugs, they aren't worth it for your specific application and not worth the money.
