You have to buy it. That's why they ask for a reg key. To know who has paid for the software and who has not. To get a reg key with out paying for it would make both you and the person who provided it guilty of software piracy

Nope. You enter the key and it creates another key when you "register" with Microsoft.
BTW...WHY would anyone want Vista?? You haven't seen all the complaints already...
1) Third party drivers/apps are not allowed unless “approved” by Microsoft. Some of your favorite software won't run on Vista because the drivers have not been "approved" by Microsoft. This also means that the digital camera you just bought may not be "allowed" to connect to the PC.
2) ALL media copied thru Vista is SERIOUSLY degraded. The mp3s that you rip, are not allowed to be full quality. Same with DVD's.
Personally, if XP ever goes out of support, I'm going Linux

Don't bother. You should have 30 days to register and activate your copy of Vista, but once it detects that you have an illegal copy it will go into reduced functionality mode. It will delete your start menu and desktop icons, start up IE and take you to the microsoft.com page where you can purchase Vista. It won't allow you to do anything else. After one hour it will power your machine down if you haven't purchased a legal copy. And hopefully it'll delete all your data as a bonus.

I think they changed it to 3 days to register. Before the release it was 30 days. Also, if you want to get around it you would have to find some type of crack to install after you installed your vista. You might be able to find someon mininova.org and search under vista
