There are bones made of compressed corn starch, Greenies for example. Those turn to mush. Plastic is dangerous because it can split off and the dog can swallow sharp pieces. It costs $1600 dollars to remove foreign objects from an animals digestive track. I would buy the cornstarch bones instead of plastic/vinyl or rubber.

Well, it depends on what kind of toys/bones he is chewing and eating. All non-food items are at risk for becoming lodged in the GI tract, causing blockage. The only way to fix it is through surgery. If the bone is designed to be eaten...more treat than toy....like the nylabone brand treats, those are ok to ingest. All natural bones are not good to give because they have the potential to splinter and if swallowed can cause perforations in the stomach or intestines. Cloth toys with stuffing are non-digestable and can become lodged in the GI tract.
I work at a veterinary hospital and see many cases like this every month. So close supervision when your dog is playing/chewing is always recommended.

If you are talking about rawhide, yes this is bad.
Rawhide can cause choking, or intestinal blockages that sometimes require surgery.
Maybe you should consider getting your dog different toys, such as a Kong which you can fill with treats, or all natural pig ears (not the rock hard ones you find in most pet sections). Bully sticks are also a great chew toy and are safe for them to eat.

My dog does the same thing. Exept she doesn't turn them to mush. She just chews it and destroys it and then eats it.
It is bad when she eats them, but when she just turns them to mush, she is just chewing them and chewing them because she is bored and eventually destroys them.

if the bones are made from natural things like pigs ears or raw hide, he should be fine. My dog went through 2 or 3 a week and he was fine.

get some real bones at the meat department of the grocers,

take them home microwave them in wax paper and give to dog.

if they toy bones are solid rawhide, yes, it can be harmful. depending on the size of the pieces he can swollow. large pieces that cannot be passed and it can cause internal blockage..if they are the compressed rawhide, it is perfectly safe.
Be thankful it's not rocks lol
