are we not "designed" to hunt down, kill, and consume our prey raw and digest it like lions and other predators do? If a human had to rely solely on their own resources to capture and consume an animal, I dont see how that could be accomplished. Predatory animals have claws and incisor teeth making them capable of crushing bones, tearing flesh, etc. The simple fact of the matter is most humans could not eat meat if they couldnt buy it easily., and we all know meat has to be cooked for human consumption. We are the only animals on earth that alter food from its natural state by cooking and seasoning it. All other creatures consume it as is. To me, it makes more sense that we were "designed" with an imposable thumb, for easily planting and picking fruits and vegetables? I would like input from both sides on this-I am trying to keep an open mind

We are no more "designed" to eat meat than we are grass. Our natural diet is omnivorous (anything), but based around fruit and insects, maybe small animals and eggs. What we do have as a species is an extraordinary ability to adapt ourselves to our environment.

We found that sticks could be used to dig up roots, or sharpened to make a spear. Stones could be thrown, or broken to provide a knife.

By working as a group, we could hunt down prey, or more likely, chase predators from their kills.

Hi Beebs,
The truth of the matter is that this thinking comes from the camp that we are a product of evolution. We are not a product of evolution we were created by GOD, the FATHER who gave us domain over all things on this earth. HE gave us the ability to hunt and fish by Thinking rather than by brute force and special design. The animals have not got the ability to think as we do and must have the additional gear to do so. Have a great day.

Well....I would imagine that in the much more primitive times, eating raw meat was something we could do. As we've developed the gene to be able digest food like may still be in use but not as prominent....Our bodies have changed quite a bit the last thousandsof years......

Have all the veggies you want. I'm having veggies too, but I like mine with MEAT. I like meat. It not only supplies me with a source of protein, it tastes delicious when properly prepared. I use my opposable thumbs to shake or add salt, pepper, Chipotle and crushed or ground red peppers, garlic (clove or powdered; never garlic salt) lemon pepper and other spices on my meat depending on what it is I'm having. I like most kinds of meat. I try not to eat too much red meat, but a properly prepared thick New York Strip steak is delicious and one of my favorites. I like a BIG baked potato with sour cream and chives with that steak. An ear of roasted corn rounds out this favorite meal nicely.
I like goat meat too; though I don't buy it to prepare at home. I like Jamaican prepared curry dishes that use goat meat. I find it very tender and flavorful. If I had some recipes and knew how to determine if it were fresh, I would probably buy some goat meat and try to prepare it at home.
Chicken and fish are also favorites. I like them grilled, fried, boiled, broiled or poached in tomato sauce.
I also enjoy lobster and crab; although I'm not sure if these crustaceans technically qualify as meat.
As the highest life form with intelligence on the planet, I enjoy my position at the TOP of the food chain. The animals were put here for my use and service. It says so in Genesis, and I believe the bible.

I'm also glad we discovered fire. Gives us many, many options for preparing our meat! Grilling and broiling are two of my personal favorites. If you are opposed to using it, there are diets that only allow "live" foods. They claim you can eat only unheated fruits and vegetables and maintain a healthy, balanced diet. I spent seven boring years being a vegetarian. It is hard work to try to get enough protein to stay healthy and I don't care what you do to a vegetable, it ain't meat!
Still, to each his own. More for me. In fact, all this talk about food has made me hungry. I'm going to heat up my Carne' Asada steak tacos I bought in last night! YUMMY!

Theoretically, we were designed with the ability to think (although if you read a few questions on here sometimes you might doubt it) and develop ways to catch meat- traps, spears, eventually guns- etc.
