i found my jack russell terrier chewing on a dead mouse. he found it under the steps of my deck and at first he was barking at something under the steps but i didnt really care because he barks at everything. i dont know if he killed it or just found it dead but the mouse was really battered and looked like it had fresh blood. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

And we already called the vet right after it happened and they just said watch out for foaming of the mouth. What else should i do?

Don't panic. Dogs and cats alike go outside and eat things you couldn't imagine. A dead mouse will not hurt your dog, although it might upset its stomach if it had been dead for awhile and started to decay. But you said it had fresh blood so that probably hasn't set in. However, if there is foaming at the mouth you should contact your vet again like they said. I really don't think there isn't cause for concern in this situation.

Throw the mouse in the trash. Thats the end of it.

My dog has done this for quite some time and it goes like this: The cat kills the mouse or mole and leaves it as a "present" for me on the back porch. The dog goes out to potty and discovers the present. The dog then brings it (unbeknownst to me!) into the house and chews on it like a bone until I discover what she's up to. Its gross, but pretty harmless.

1) Have your dog checked for anything it may have picked up from the mice 2) Insulate the water heater, because they are probably licking the condensation off the heater and dying there instead of going outside to find water and dying outside (the poison activates with water) 3) Clean and sanitize (professionally?) the cavity where the heater is 4) Put poison in inaccesible places outside to kill them before they come in again 5) Keep your dog on a leash when outside that should do it If it continues, hire a vermin control expert

If you are concerned that the mouse died from poision get your dog to the vet ASAP and ask them to draw blood and run a tox. screen. If he did not get in to poision then you are out the cost of the visit if he did then you might save his life. It is worth a shot either way.

I guess your jack russell does not like the dog food...

This is what the dog would eat if man was not there to feed him.

Natural

Dont do nothing, dogs do this outdoors, they even catch moles.
I never knew it to hurt a dog or cat.
The dog will be fine, put a listerine melt in the dog mouth
