I assume you're talking about a word-processing document, using Microsoft word. The methods above work, but there are two easier ways:

1) at the top hit "insert", then choose "symbol", and then select the symbol you want, either ñ or Ñ.

2) even easier:
-- for ñ: type ~ followed by n, all WHILE YOU'RE HOLDING THE CONTROL CONTROL KEY DOWN (don't forget, to get the ~ you'll need to use shift).
-- for Ñ: same thing except, instead of typing type ~ followed by n, type ~ followed by N.

If you are typing, it will depend on what font you are using. To do symbols like that, you have to enter a short series of keystrokes i.e. Times New Roman is alt+0241 (holding down alt and pressing 0241) They are different for every font and can all be found in the character map programs>accessories>character map.

Click start. Go to Programs, then Accessories. Find System Tools somewhere near the bottom and click Character Map. Your N will be there, select it, then click copy and paste it.

i think if you want to do it in a word document, you can just go to insert symbol and find the n with the ~ on the top. what i do sometimes is to just copy paste it from some other website. i'm sure you could also just buy a spanish keyboard, since i'm sure they have that letter on it.

Capital N with TILDE( ~) = Alt(key)+0209 and small caps n with TILDE (~) = Alt(key)+0241 but i guess the neumeric pad works well.

Try also ALT+154 & ALT+145 i dont have a neumeric pad...

If you are using a word processing program, like Word, it may be with the "symbols."

I just checked & it IS under symbols in Word.
