I have found that just because a product is cruelty free doesn't mean it's toxin free, sometimes just the opposit is true. If a product, say makeup, states it is organic, is it toxin free by definition, given the parameters of what is organic?

The following is related to organic toxins

Some toxins are effective and specific poisons produced by living organisms. They usually consist of an amino acid chain which can vary in molecular weight between a couple of hundred (peptides) and one hundred thousand (proteins). They may also be low-molecular organic compounds. Toxins are produced by numerous organisms, e.g., bacteria, fungi, algae and plants. Many of them are extremely poisonous, with a toxicity that is several orders of magnitude greater than the nerve agents.

Above is true, there is plenty of crap out there purporting to be heatlhy that is actually pretty bad for you, lots of weight loss and health pills have "organic" herbs which can have some pretty ugly side effects, and just because it's organic doesn't make it any less lethal. The vegetables/herbs/animals still get rained on by the same acid rain as everything else. Also, a toxin, though technically "a poison" has a meaning generally confined to the interaction of substances with bacteria, and since bacteria are fairly small, it's kinda hard to tell if they are there, now tell me does the fact that the food you are eating is said never to have been treated with any fertilizer/insecticide or what have you make you feel any better about eating it?

Absolutely not. Plants and the creatures that feed on them have been in an evolutionary "war" for millions of years. This has led to plants that have extremely powerful toxins to ward off those who would consume them, and if they were grown organically they would be organic and toxic. Plant-based poisons existed long before the chemical industry, and many of them are potent in very small amounts. Chemical pesticides are often based on naturally occurring compounds created by plants, as in Pyrethryn, which is found in daisies. (reference below) In the US you have particular concern as cosmetics are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Your only recourse is to READ THE LABEL and if you don't like what you see, walk on. There are lots of safe alternatives for almost any product.

Not necessarily. All they mean by organic is that it is grown without using man made chemicals such as pesticides and growth hormones. There are still many natural toxins that may exist in the product.

Look at the fruit . I lived in Ecuador and down in the jungle there were apples growing and they looked terrible from bug bites and they laid their eggs there. It had all kinds of warts in it but it was totally toxin free .

Another examples are copper salts which are approved as controls on organic food and other plants such as cotton. At the same time EPA has declared copper salts are toxic on their national 313 Toxics List.
