Beagles are very friendly..family orientated dogs. My grandfather raised beagles and I have a beagle and she gets along with other dogs and children. Your daughter will have to be sure and socialize the pup with other dogs and people. They do have a 'hound' bark, but can be trained to not bark when told. My beagle is now 16 years old and she is so sweet...but then..I'm bias. lol Just like with any dog, you'd want to train the dog (a good idea is to take it for a 'training' class at one of the local pet stores...many have them) and you would not leave the dog, or any dog, alone with a small child...always supervise little children with pets as the children have a tendency to want to sit on the pet,..pull the tail and other things that will make the pet nervous or irritated. All in all...beagles can make very good pets. :)

I never met a Beagle I didn't like. However, this breed is a hunting breed, so the instincts are usually prevalent. Beagles are hyper, and friendly from my experience, But as a kid, We had a few...and they have one thing...Rabbit Blood...They love to run, and are nuerotic. So, if you and your daughter both have time to properly train the dog, I'm sure you will be fine. Best wishes. Now where's my biscuit? Not the green one..the red one!

I have a beagle and she has never been unfriendly to anyone. She does however like to steal food out of the hands of children who aren't paying attention! Beagles are obsessed with food and will do anything to get it. Mine learned how to open the fridge. I would reccommend a beagle to anyone who wants a loving and devoted dog.

Hi beagles can sometimes be a bit stuborn (towards children and adults) but also they can be very hard to tame by just a nine year old girl but i think that if you helped her out on the training then maybe she would be fine with a beagle! also my neighbor down the street has a beagle and she said to me once that her beagle was only sometimes not friendly towards like infants that would tease him and pull his short fur etc... but i do not believe that a beagle would be aggressive to a nine year old! :)
But anways they can be very stuborn at times and also when they get outside and you want them to come in (but they dont wanna come in) then they can be very hard to catch! and i believe as a result that you should only let your nine year old daughter get a beagle if you help her out with it to!
like the kid said above about them being not kid friendly its usually to younger children than nine (as long as she acts her age and is very gentle and is the master of the dog!)

Beagles have a tendency to be very independent, and run away often. My grandpa raised them and they were always missing, barking, and eating. The size of the dog itself is a good idea, but try to get a less independent dog. Spaniel types are great, such as the Brittany Spaniel and the Cavalier King Charles. Always try to adopt, mixes are much healthier than purebreds (and possibly smarter!).

I really like Beagles and i'm sure it will be very friendly. However, they are naturally born hunting dogs so she probably won't be able to play with him outside if you don't have a fence or a leash. I have a westie and it took him 8 years to finally not run away.

If you like the beagle, and want a calmer kind, try a Boggle! Its a Beagle/ Boston Terrier. We have one and she is sweet and kid friendly [we have 4 kids]. She looks like a beagle, loves to snuggle, and is training easily. She's also super quiet and loving! Have fun!
