...I have looked all over the 'net' and can not find out how to paint step by step faux brick. At least not so that it would look real anyway. I plan to make it appear that I have brick wall showing behind a plaster wall at certain places in my kitchen.
Could someone please help?

As stated in the first answer paint the wall the grout color tape of brick shapes with the thin painters tape. This is the blue one. Paint the bricks a brick red. Then with a sponge dab on a little dark brown .Then sponge over again lighly and in only a few places with black. Or spatter on the black using an old brush.Just get the bristles loaded with the paint and pull back with your fingers and let it spatter onto the wall. This will give you the old weathered look to the brick. Practice on a piece of cardboard first to get the look you want before statring on your walls. It really is pretty easy and if you get it to dark just sponge on a little more of the brick color. Let it dry just a little then pull off the tape. Don't let it set to long as it could pull off some of the paint.

paint the wall the color of the grout lines. Let it dry.
Buy thin masking tape and tape off the lines so it looks like a brick wall. measure carefully. Apply the brick color material, maybe mix in some drywall compound to add texture and thickness. Then rip off the tape. Test on a test strip first.

Try Dressler Stencils. You stencil the brick on, then sponge paint the "wall"over it.

You may have better luck going to your local Home Depot or Lowe's and having someone show you in person. That way you can ask questions and make sure you get it right.
