When a person prays in tongues it is a language when is not naturally known to the person speaking. For example, you may speak in english all your life, but when recieve a prayer language from God it could be french, arabic, african, spanish, or a language which has dissappeared. You did not naturally learn it, but it was given to you by the Holy Spirit. It is a language somebody in the world some where is familiar with. So, it is not just jibberish. There was a worship team which went to China a few years ago. But the guards to them they could not come through. However, one of the men had a prayer language in Chinese. God told him to go speak to the guards in Chinese. The man went and did so. At first the guards said no, but after a minute he let them through.

These are angelic languages. Since the number of angels is uncountable by human standards, so are the languages that they speak. Speaking in tongues is a form of worshiping God in the Spirit.

I haven't been blessed with this just yet, its a gift from God. You can't control what your saying and it sounds like gibbberish, but God knows what your saying. Its an unknown language to us and a language that God understands

From what I understand, speaking is toungues is when you are in such a close relationship with God when you pray, you speak a language that only He can understand, without even realizing it.

I think you left something out.....or is it a language where they just babble and reach an excited self delusional mental state where they believe they are seeing spirits?
