Holocaust happended because they death camps were deep within Nazi occupied Europe so there was little or nothing the allies could do. During World War One the allies played the "atrocity" propoaganda card accusing the Germans of nailing babies to barn doors and raping Belgian women and so forth. When the war was over and it turned out to be lies it made people reluctant to believe it when the Nazis were accused of mass-murder in World War Two. They just assumed it was war propaganda.

Africa:
Nothing to gain with much more to loose. Africa is dysfunctional and no European nation wants to be involved. It is better to write them a check and look the other way. Serbia and Kosovo was different. It was on European soil in a region where World War One began. Middle-East? Well it is the blood(oil) of modern civilization. No one can afford to look the other way.
Africa? Is nothing but a billion hungry mouths to feed. If you become invloved there then you must be ready to expect to be flooded with refugees. Sorry but that's reality.

The world did intervene during the Holocaust. It was called WORLD War 2. They didn't know until after the invasion of the mainland of Europe what exactly was going on at the concentration camps. Once Allied troops got close enough, the Nazis abandoned the camps to young and inexperienced soldiers, if any at all. Once the atrocities committed at the camps were discovered, the world came up with a plan to punish those responsible. The trials at Nuremberg took care of many of the leaders of the camps. Research it sometime.

WWII took care of the nation causing the holocaust. One little nation stood up to the Germans for many years with the aid of another. The rest of the world couldn't or wouldn't. The US was mostly isolationists prior to the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor. It's over there and does not concern us.
People like you ask these questions. People also condemn the US for engaging the cause of these types of human abuse.
If the US gets involved, we are invading for the oil or for the riches of the country. None of our business, we should pull out. If we don't get involved, we are causing/letting it happen thus we are against human rights. No matter what we do, we are blamed for the wrong.
Answer your question? Any time a good man stands up and proclaims the truth, there are 1000 who stand up to shout him down.
This nation has been the largest caregiver the world has ever seen or will ever see. We however have to endure the blame for every evil thing that occurs. No end to it.

Rwanda and Darfur are the U.N.'s problems. they were created to stop war and ensure peace. But when they dont things like this continue to happen. During the Holocaust we didnt think that the Nazis would do anything like that, it was too cruel for anyone to understand. But, thats what isolationism does. When people say it's not their problem while people die, they are to blame as well.

Well during the Holocaust they really couldn't since they were fighting it themselves. that's why its called "WORLD war II"
Rwanda did have help from france and some other country but those countries started pulling out when they got effected too much. See everyone does whatever is best for their OWN people. and if it gets too "heated" they pull out. It's quite sad really.

I actually heard a lecture given by Lieutenent General, Romeo Dellaire -- a Canadian who was sent to Rwanada and was in charge of 3,000 peacekeeping troops who were sent to keep the peace following a treaty which was signed. Eight months after arriving there they began to witness wholesale murder and what became a genocide. He asked the United Nations for three thousand more troops when violence broke out, but rather than providing the support -- the UN gave Dellaire orders to evacuate. Dellaire refused, disobeying orders and remained where he saved what lives he could but saw thousands more murdered. If you reaad Dellaire's book -- he blames the United Nations. It's not terribly complicated -- it comes down to the fact that no organized body wishes to be held responsible. What caos breaks out -- they do not wish to be blamed. The UN is notorious for stepping up and sending over offifcials and soldiers but sadly and repeatedly are equally notorious for withdrawing their support once they have taken that initial step. Dellaire was far too illl equipped to deal with the situation which broke out and rather than supporting the peacekeepers the UN had sent over, their answer to the whole thing was to give orders to evacuate.
80,000 people were murdered in 100 days and Dellaire eventually returned to Ottawa but returned a broken man, blaming himself for the fact he could not do more. Guilt as well as the horrors he witnessed caused a deep depression which lead to alcoholism and attempts of suicide. Dellaire however once again rose to conquer his demons and now lectures publically about his experience and has written a book, Shake Hands With The Devil.

Ever hear of World War II? They did not intervene earlier in the Holocaust because of the Liberal idea of appeasement. Give Hitler what he wants and he will be satisfied.
