It can work believe it or not. My husband and I met when I was very young and there is 14 years difference between us. We have been married for 17 years and have 4 beautiful children and one of the most healthy marriages (in comparison to our friends)...Although I didn't have a disfunctional family and that can make a HUGE difference.
They are both considered adults so whatever decision they make is legal. Here is a question for you...I know your girlfriend is from a disfunctional family but is she unusually mature because of that? Sometimes gals from that type of background need to grow up fast...and sometimes men are just less mature than women anyway. Take away their ages and look at the match they make. Is he trying to control her more than anyother boyfriend might? If so, is she allowing it?

Someone should make a deal with her that if she makes it to 25 and still wants to marry this guy, go for it! This difference in age/maturity is usually not a level playing field, but every once in awhile, the "May/December" things works. When I was 21, I married a 37 year old. While it wasn't a horrible situation and had absolutely nothing to do with "looking for a daddy" (everyone unfairly assumes this), it didn't work out. His parents married when his mother was 18 and his father was 38 - it worked well for them.

Sounds like a match made in heaven..... But, really, I agree with you, 18 is still too young for good decision-making. The facts are that SO WHAT if she's looking for a daddy and he plays the part - whose business is it but theirs?
I just wish them LOTS OF LUCK, and I commend you for being a serious friend..

is this girl you? Wel it depends. I am 16 and married a 25 year old we are very happy. Age is just a number. If you or this girl is very mauture and ur maturity matches go for it. But it sounds a lil fishy to me.

They are both legally adults. Although I think the age difference is too much (especially at 18), there is really nothing nobody can do to stop them. Let them make their own decisions. They will find out on their own if those decisions are the right ones. My advice is to butt out. Let them figure it out on their own.

um gross and I think your right, the girls looking for a daddy or a way out of her current situation. the man well their a weird species anyway. It may make him feel younger, he like young girls, anyway its gross. Try talking to the girl, dont be afraid to be honest. she may need a smack of reality in the face

Yes, it's sad. He is taking advantage of it. He's a misogynistic prick in my book. If you've tried, there's nothing you can do to stop the girl.

You are right. There is something totally wrong and sick about a man who does this. Hopefully someone in her family will stop this...

I think you're right, but since she's 18, there's not much anyone can do about it. If she were even 17, it's illegal.
