I have a laptop with vista home premium preinstalled, can i install my windows xp home(unused and original) over it?

Personally, I think you're asking for problems doing so. In other words, you'd have to convince me there is some compelling reason why this is absolutely necessary and that there is no other option for me to even think it's possible.

I mean, they're both just a means to get stuff done....

Build yourself a nice Desktop and Install XP on it. You can learn a lot and after you build one you will never buy a ready made computer. Be careful though, building computers can become an expensive hobby, unlike model cars, though both can be addicting.

Yes. Insert the disk, restart the computer, and then boot from the disk. Now it should let you install Windows XP.

i would not advise it... i would do a clean install.. as vista does go into the bios and configures some of it....
