because yo mam ma started in the black community and most times they don't know who their daddy is so surest way to burn someone was to say yo mam ma.

Unfortunately, no one or very few people get offended when you talk about their dad, but don't mess with mom because those are fighting words.
Same concept applies in sports when you catch an athelete on TV and they thanks mom and never dad.

I think it's bc most ppl live with only their mom and they have strong feeling for their mom more than their dad. they will not get offended if someoen talks about their dad. idk.. i'm guessing
