if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

I think it's rather egotistical of the human race to believe it has to, or even can, "protect" something as great as the earth. No matter what we do, the earth will live on. She has already survived through a lot worse than what the human race is capable of throwing at her. However, if your question is really asking how can we protect the beauty of our planet and maintain her ability to support life as we know it, then MAYBE there are things that can be done.
It all will need to start with education and economics though. The poor (and I'm talking REALLY poor, if you're on a computer, you don't qualify ;-) don't care if their food comes in plastic, paper, or trash bin, as long as they have food. The environmental cause is supported by those who can afford to make choices and who have been educated in regards to the choices. So, until those privileges are universal, I'm afraid the beautiful planet to which you refer will never be universal.

None of the silly juvenile suggestions above will do squat, except make the guilty feel better about themselves. None of the strategies that would be truely effective are politically acceptable. For example:
1.) Mandatory birth control. Terminate unlicensed pregnancies. Sterilize convicted felons.
2.) Execute everyone older than 50 -- no exceptions.
3.) Use weapons of mass destruction on cities with populations exceeding 100,000.
4.) Eliminate all internal combustion engines.
5.) Have a gigantic lottery. If you win, you get to keep living.
As you can easily see, none of the above are acceptable. That's because the human species is now so civilized that we live outside the forces of Nature, which would naturally regulate our population. We have achieved humanity's goal and triumphed over natural forces. Civilization, not Nature, controls our fate. That means, as a species, we'll never do what is necessary to protect the natural world. The only hope for the planet is that it's possible humanity will screw-up and destroy itself.
