I swear I read that since I'm an atheist I'm not accountable to anyone about as often as I read that the theory of evolution suggests man came from monkeys. Such rubbish we read.

There was a time long ago in the far reaches of time in the dark days of the beginning of R&S when Actual spiritual questions were asked and answered. When one could post a question in true search of spiritual enlightenment and not be harrased and insulted. It seems those days are gone. It the professed spirit of seeking knowledge I find it suppremely ridiculous that so many would be just as happy burning a four thousand year old text and discarding any and all reason and information it contians. Why does it seem to be those that claim to honor knowledge that reflect this the most.

There are many atheists...and there are many atheists who claim to be religious people in churches. Each human being has worth in that you are a life which Christ chose to die for. God loves us so much, he is willing to allow us to choose to believe in him or not...You are accountable to society, and the rest of human kind...you are accountable to future generations as we protect or destroy our environment, and reputation. I know many atheists are atheists because they can not accept the mythology which became many churches of today...such as the unbiblical idea that God tortures people in eternal fire...in the original languages where everlasting fire was used, it meant to be utterly destroyed to ashes, never to be in existance again...this is the description of the destruction of Sodom, and Gomorrah...those two places are not still burning in the wilderness south of Israel. Judaism, the multiple denominations of Christianity, and Islam all originate from the same source, with all kinds of local mythology thrown in...when all of that is thrown out, you have a simple belief in a peaceful and loving God. With all the mythology, you have all kinds of fanatics doing what they think God wants them to do. If I didn't personally know the truth, I might not be able to accept Christianity, for myself either. My advice is get to know the truth minus the mythology. I would rather look like a fool believing in God and be wrong, then to look like an intellectual atheist and be wrong. The foolishness of God is beyond the most intelligent thoughts of human kind.

Jim, people may say that you're a dime a dozen, but you're important to God. You may not believe that, but He really does love you.

And yes, you're accountable to Him, whether you believe that or not, either. He cared enough to give you the very best that He has -- His own Son.

We may not agree on things, but I still value you as a friend here on R&S. I would never presume to slam you and say that you have no worth.

(Besides, I won you in that auction you held, remember? You're worth every penny I paid for you!) ;-)

You answer to the rest of us. Just keep in mind that many of us are armed.

If we screw up the environment, we may all die. If we are all nasty to each other, commit crimes, etc, then our lives are not as nice. That is the only hell possible. We evolved morals by coming from social creatures.

I hope you are accountable to others as a human being.
You are not a dime-a-dozen - you are valuable beyond measure, like nothing else.

Ridiculous. We're accountable to one another. We're accountable to our families, our loved ones, our communities, our friends, our Jobs (sort of), and most of all to ourselves.

I don't need fear of hell to know not to steal candy from a baby.
