Honey, you need to edit your question. You say you come from a skinny family but your family comes from a heavier-set family? Do you mean the father's family is more heavy set? Sorry, people won't answer this 'cause it's confusing.

Heathier babys they say tend to live heathier lives. Best thing to do really is just feed the baby its vegies stay way from the deserts from the baby food, If you baby hates vegies do a double dip, vegies then dip them in a fruit, the baby taste the fruit likes it and eats it. You really don't have any control on your babys matabalizem, all you can do it try hard to keep the baby from sweets and feed her correctly. The baby can take after either side or be inbetween theres really no way to tell. Just try to feed him/her right and keep the heath diet for all in the family. And hope for the best!

I come from a heavy set family line and my son's father's family are usually tall and skinny and my son is going on 9 and is tall and skinny. But it shouldn't matter b/c this is your child and your supposed to love it unconditionally. It sounds to me like you (like me) have had some issues with your weight (as I have my whole life) such as people judging or teasing you and your afraid that your child is going to go through what you have, or you don't want anyone to judge you b/c of your child (not judging...I've been there). Just relax, everything will be ok.

There is basic body build i.e. large or small frame, naturally fleshy, etc. That is one factor, but a lot depends on the eating habits your child is raised with. My family (who are overweight) snacked on junk food and ate starchy high fat foods for meals. My friend (who is very slim) grew up eating lots of vegies and when she snacks, grabs for fruit, raw vegies or cheerios. To celebrate special occaisions, do things that are fun instead of celebrating around a special meals. Do not reward your child with candy or food treats. Do not go overboard by not allowing your child ANY sweets or junk food - that will make your child want it even more. It's all about moderation.

hmmm nurture vs. nature.....well with all the fast foods and snacks that are so easy and cheap to buy in our country I'm gonna have to go with nurture...if you feed your child healthy foods, make sure he/she gets plenty of exercise and gets regular check ups you should have a healthy thin child....
