You have to figure out what your priorities are, what kind of lifestyle you want, and if it's a high maintenance one they yes you had better work your butt off, because these days it's hard to live like the rich and famous, have a home and juggle a family and career too.
My sense is that most employers hate it when women have babies as it means absenteeism and more work for them in finding a sub to fill in for you. Some jobs that's easy to do, others it's not, and some employers don't consider women who have kids to be as ambitious as those who don't. If there's something that takes your attention from the workforce, they may not like it.
I never thought that was true but when it happened to me and I had worked there 20 years I was pretty disappointed with the sudden change of attitude for all the years of hard work I'd given them. I didn't even do anything it was just a perceived notion by them. They actually ended up letting me go under the guise of "downsizing" and I never even took any time off other than maternity leave. They did that to a lot of women having babies in that office but hey, it was my time and I was just happy to have used those years to save, buy, and pay off a house so I was able to stay home and not hurt too badly. Been home for 10 years now and loving every minute.

It is absolutely possible to have a great career AND children. As long as you are healthy and active then don't worry about the age limit. It always depends on your lifestyle what the age limit is. However I wouldn't wait too much longer after 40 if you're trying to conceive. Get your career established first if that's what you're aiming at, and when it's great there and financially then you should start trying. I stopped working when I got pregnant but plan on going back when my youngest is in pre-school. I am perfectly okay with that. It's also great if you go back to work 2 months after as long as you have a good babysitter you can trust. I wouldn't go back sooner than 6 weeks but no later than 3-4 months because that's when they become aware that mom's not around and it would be harder for them to cope. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't have both. It's all about balance!

I think the question should be - does having children get in the way of having a successful career? and the answer is yes. It's easier if you need the right man to help - but there's nothing wrong with having children later in life, many women do it all the time.

Its very possible. I am a single mom to a 2 year old son and also work full time. I am getting ready to start school in March. You just need to make sure that you don't take time away from your kid if you have a busy schedule. If you are looking at going to school I would suggest on line classes. If you want it bad enough not just for you but to benefit your kid you'll be able to figure it out.

My sister does. Of course she has a great support system - my mom. Remember that saying it takes a village to raise a child. well, the village makes it a lot easier, especially when you have to go out of town for a business trip and your mom can take care of your kid.

It is possible but it is very difficult to do. Especially if we are trying to balance family with career and career is very demanding.
