i am so sorry. i had a pet hen and she thought i was her mom and she died of cancer a year ago. i couldnt get over it and just did nothing for the whole week. i felt as if life wasnt worth living. its still hard to talk about.. my mom got me 3 new day old chicks and they are all alive and well: buffy, honey, and georgie.
i think that after somethin like that happens u should wait respectively and then get another pet... another dog or a cat...
the new pet isnt taking the place of the other though.
dont worry. dreyfuss would like it if u got a new pet so that u wouldnt be so lonely and sad. would dreyfuss really want u sad?

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. When we lose our pets, it is like losing a family member - you will have wonderful memories of your Dreyfuss - hopefully you have pictures. They say you should not run out to get another pet to replace the one you just lost, for you may end up comparing the two, which would not be fair to the new addition - try to occupy yourself with something you like to do - call and chat with a friend that will give you an ear. - if you can - take a walk outside and remember

Go to the pound and find a needy dog to focus your attention on. It won't be anything like Dreyfuss, but I know it made me feel good to spoil a dog that was sad before. I can't think of a better tribute to a pet than to help another of its kind live as happily as yours did.

Oh im so so sorry darling for this. Poor little thing. I really dont know what to say. I understand what you are going through. When i was small, someone put poison out around my neigbourhood and it killed off nearly every dog we knew and loved, including my own dog too. They fired the poison over the walls of people who had dogs that were allowed out to play in the gardens. Just keep in mind that he is in heaven and watching over you. Ye will meet again. In the meantime, think about getting another dog. He would have wanted this. There is another dog out there who desperately needs youre love. Dreyfuss is happy!
All my love to you and please be brave. xxxxxx

As you would do with anyone you loved in life, care for their remains and continue loving them. Call your vet. Most veterinarians have a regular procedure for handling pets who have died. Usually, they offer cremation services (or have an agent that handles the process). If you go this route then I would contact a nearby college that offers ceramics courses and inquire about someone who would make a vessel to retain the remains. I did this for a friend and it helped him recover from the loss.
You can hold the ashes until the vessel is ready and then you have a ceremony with those who knew Dreyfuss. Set him down to rest.
You might also either bury your pet in an approved pet cemetery, or simple spread his ashes where you think he would like to be.
If you have already handled his remains and need closure on his passing, then hold a ceremony for him. It helps to have people come together to make the event of the death something held by a community and not just one individual. If it continues to trouble you then I would suggest you seek grief counseling.

Dogs only live 8 to 15 years. And to be honest can die anytime after 2 years. This can be very painful I know. But it is up to us humans to be strong, not heartless, and get a new puppy when we loose our best friends.
This is the only real way To deal with the passing of someone who does not have our long lifespan. I have had 6 dogs in my life, and I cried after everyone died. But you cannot let it take over your life. It is time to move on.
Funny they all passed in their own way, It was better having the ones that got really old, over the ones that got hit by trucks.
I can deal with the fact that I had to put them down due to age or health problems alot better than having them die early.
The sooner you have a puppy in your arms the better.

When Lance disappeared (courtesy of the neighbor's pitbulls), I cried for 3 days straight, cried through breaks at work and always at night. Remember that depression after loss, mourning after loss is normal. If it continues, see a Dr. for medication. I have insomnia, depression and anxiety issues now. My blood pressure shot up, etc. We must believe that everyday will get better. That somehow, something else nice will replace the loss of joy we had. My Dr. wants me to get another pet, says some people are just pet people...maybe a cat or hamster. You can never replace the love you lost, you just need to survive until you can love again.

Remember the good times and imagen him up on clouds learning to use his new wings and trying to figure out why a odd golden donut if floating above his head and how he can get it and eat it. When you feel ready go and start looking at puppies or dogs, of the same breed, and hopefully his personality was common for his breed and you'll get a dog that will be your new buddy, but don't ever forget him.

Lauren is O.K. to just cry. There are forums on line that will help you cope with your lose. Take time to grieve. Go to your local SPCA and spend time with other dogs. It will help you. You will know when you are ready for a new puppy or dog. Some times getting another dog sooner than later helps but make sure that you are ready for it when you do decide to get another dog.
