the bird lady and 4x4 answers are correct. just pecking to give a kiss on the lips? mine do that all the time, they know its affection. and my bigger macaw knows she will get "put in jail" (and can say this too, lol) if she decides to play a bit rough and bite a little hard. jThe bacteria and saliva in our mouths is much more dangerous to them. but just pecking on closed lips, if you have a good relationship with them, and they do it nicely, doesnt hurt anything. One note: any new bird should always be isolated in another room and hands washed between handling other birds until results of routine tests come back that all bird owners should get at an avian vet upon adopting one. Especially if it comes from the pound or unknown places. Once they have a clean bill of health, as long as they arent around other birds that you dont know if they are "clean" or not, then most that have been clipped love to be on you, kiss you, some snuggle in your shirt to sleep... one of mine is right here snoozing in my bra... (oops) but she loves the warmth!! the other is way too large. If you get bit, as all bird owners do, just wash and put a dab of antibacterial ointment on it. Oh, and there IS no dumb question... the only ones that are dumb is the ones we dont ask and dont learn. good for you.

It's possible but kind of unlikely though I wouldn't personally recommend doing it again . I have a sister with a friendly parrot and has had no such problem . I realize it's wintertime now but birds can carry the west nile virus if bitten sometime by a mosquito and not all show symptoms so I would err on the safe side but not worry too much about it.

No, ironically enough birds are very clean animals, and the scary thing is is that we are more dangerous to their health than the other way around. I have a conure and a quaker parrot and I used to let them kiss me and fiddle around cleaning my teeth or whatever. After reading many of the books I have for them I realized that my saliva is very dangerous to their health. Parrots have very small, weak immune systems and wouldn't be able to handle the kinds of bacteria us humans have, especially coming from our mouths! yuck. My parrots bite me all the time too when they don't get their way...there's really nothing to worry about. Hope this helps.

Although is it unlikely that you can get salmonellosis from a bird biting you, you can make the bird sick by your bodily fluids, especially by your saliva.
There are bacterias in your saliva that can make your bird very sick or worse.
One of the risks that bird owners have is getting bitten.

Good luck.

birds aren't usually carriers of salmonella. If you kissed a turtle or other reptikle you might need to be worried.

YOU can make them sick but they can't make you sick from kissing. Humans have deadly bacteria in their mouths that can kill our pet birds, so never let them eat from your mouth or let them in your mouth at all.
