I have got a creative 5.1 surround sound connected to my PC, and that is all it is connected to. I am on my computer (obviously!!) and my girlfriend is watching a dvd on the TV.

What is weird is that the "background" noises on the TV are coming out of my surrond sound system, I kept hearing it and thought it must be my ears!!! But after a while I realised it definitely was and so, I turned up the volume on my surround sound and Yes it is, the "background" noises from the DVD are coming out my surrond sound system and there is not one lead connecting the surround sound to the TV or DVD

How is this possible????

It's the frequencies coming of each machine. Obviously the RF signals coming off the TV are more powerful than those from your PC and it's receiving the interference. Doesn't need to be connected to it. Any length of cable is going to act like an antenna. You may be able to get an RF filter. That should cut out the interference. Hope this helps.

I can't offer you a definate answer, but I believe that most internal sound cards in your PC are not shielded sufficiently. So in many cases I believe the un-shielded sound card will pick up radio interference from other PC components, as well as other consumer electronics, and you'll be able to 'hear' it.

An external sound card (there are a few) may be able to help... can anyone attest to this? I know musicians and other professionals are able to make recordings without this background noise. I've been trying to find out for years, so can anyone help me too?

Syko Ward: Can you tell us more about RF filters, either how they work, or give us some links otherwise? Thanx
