When I hand her the cup she throws it at me- but if I hold it for her she will drink out of it.

She is testing you to see if you will do what she wants you to...you need to let her know that you are the boss...Tell her she has to hold it or she will not get a drink...when she screams, take the cup away...she will eventually get it that in order to get a drink she has to hold it herself...

Set it down on a low table near to your daughter instead of handing it directly to her. This way, she doesn't have the opportunity to throw it at you, and she still has the cup within reach. Say, "here is your drink", and walk away out of the room. Whatever you do, do not hold it for her... if she is physically capable of holding the cup (ie, she has no disability which would make holding a cup difficult) then you have no reason to continue to do so. You can also purchase the kind of sippys that have handles, if it seems that she has a hard time getting her hands around a regular cup. Encourage her to do it herself- "There's your drink, you can get it like a big girl!" and praise her when she does- "Wow, you can hold your cup yourself!" If you flat out refuse to hold the cup for her, it won't take her long to get the idea that mom isn't going to be walked on. This is just the start, mom... that little one is going to spend plenty of time figuring out just how far she can push you and what she can get out of doing herself. Stand up now, or you'll find yourself rocking her to sleep when she is 10! : )

Maybe it is the sippy cup that you have. Try a different one...maybe one that has handles. It could be that she is not comfortable holding the one she has. Put it in front of her and let her try it out. If she throws it, don't give in and hold it for her.

she just really dosen't want the cup i would say.try geting her a cup with her favorite cartoon on it or if she like monkeys or cows or puppys or something she is really into on it try that first.I wouldn't make her take the sippy cup if she doesn't want it some babies just aren't quiet ready too give up that bottle your not a bad parent if you let her keep her bottle a little longer wait tell she is ready now if she is still taking the bottle at two then i would be thinking of something too try and get her too really want that sippy cup. Some babies have there own timing on these things.don't worry hang in there.

Ha! She will when she is thirsty and you stop doing it. If you wrap her hands around it, will she? If yes then she knows how and if she doesnt do it its because she wants you to. if she doesnt do it at breakfast, she will be extra thirsty and motivated later on or at lunch, and thats it. Not to brag, but it took my son 4 hours to get completely weened, he always drank his juice out of a sippy, but not milk, never. One day i gave him milk in a sippy, he wouldnt drink it, so later at lunch i gave it to him again, and he was MUCH more receptive to the idea! Never had an issue with it since! Now he will drink out of any sippy, but in the beginning only those ADVENT ones with the soft spout and the side handles. Pain to wash and always losing parts in the dishwasher, but it got him started anyways! good luck

set it next to her and go about what you were doing...do not hold it for her...she will get mad at first but after a fedw moments of crying she will realize that she has her own hands and pick it up and hold it her self...also, what kind of sippy are you using, does it have handles that her cute little hands can hold easily???

my son did that when i tried to take him off the bottle. what i did was i would give him his sippy cup...if he threw it i set it up so it wasnt leaking but left it where it was....eventually he got thursty and went right to it. now he doesnt throw it at all and doesnt use bottles at all. well when its empty then he will.

Stop holding it, place it near her, and if she crys, let her. Shes gotta learn that your not going to do it anymore, and if she refuses it, eventually she will get thirsty and take it.

be patient, stop holding it, she'll get it sooner or later. She'll get
thirsty enough.

Leave it where it lies. When she's thirsty, she'll pick it up and drink.
