1. A bright orange foam rubber "beer cozy" with the couples names and wedding date on it. A beer cozy is one of those things that you put on a beer can to keep the beer cold.
The wedding was at a nice country club and my parents went all out to make it as elegant as possible. Most of the guests were the type who probably wouldn't drink beer out of a can. My sister who is a hood rat by nature insisted on tacky extras like the beer cozy, an ice shot funnel and the chicken dance. I guess to each, her own!
2. A deck of cards with the bride's picture on the back of every card. The bridal dress is already badly dated and I'm sure it will make me a few bucks on ebay in five years.
3. A donation made on my behalf to the National Rifle Association. Every guest had a card saying that a five dollar donation was made in our name. Not all the guests supported the NRA but it was a great conversation starter
I guess there is no such thing as bad wedding favors, they make good stories.

For favors you could do disposable cameras. This can give your guests something fun to do, make them feel included, and save you costs on a photographer. As far as other tips go: go with fake flowers for almost everything (I'd still use real for the bridal). They are cheaper, they don't wilt and you can arrange them how you want. Since you have time before your wedding you can keep an eye out for sales on bridal gowns. Wedding cakes are expensive, you could make your own. Or do something unconventional like wedding cookies! If you want a french manicure, go buy a kit instead of going to a salon. Do your own hair. Make your own Thank-You cards. Cut out the things you don't need.

A tree. It had a card telling you to plant at least ten feet away from anything else. We didn't have anywhere to plant it at all, let alone two (they gave one to every guest, not just one person couple) And lots of the guests lived in apartments or townhomes, so no yards at all. Lots of dead trees!
I don't like seed packets or flower bulbs either, but they feel far less wasteful than a seedling.

What was supposed to be beautiful. . . hand made chocolates with a fresh raspberry in the center. The raspberries molded.
Another good one was the bride and groom decided to use little fishbowls with a goldfish in them with flowers all around, on top of a mirror. Well, we all got, by reception time to look at dirty fishbowls with a dead fish floating in it.

I got a cd once with some really crappy songs I would never listen to in my life. I also got a bag of those pillow mints that taste like chalk.

A bible. The couple was very religious and always trying to push their beliefs on everyone else. I threw mine out.
