I was involved in a PTA for a few years, and "chairperson" (this is in the UK) for 3 of them. My advice would be to consider the skills you need to be president. You have to be able to stop people talking on and on about irrelevant topics, to organise people into action, to communicate well with the other parents and the school's staff, lead by example ~ be enthusiastic and energetic in your approach. Look at what sort of events and activities the PTA's involved with, and consider how the president pulls them together. What's missing in the school? Could you see yourself introducing new ideas and persuading people to carry them out? It's a rewarding role, sometimes frustrating, and you're already halfway there in considering running for president.
You'll be getting great experience and your kids will benefit from having a parent who's committed to their school. I now work in a school, in a community development role, and I see a huge difference in the attitude of kids whose parents are involved ~ increased self esteem, self confidence and pride. If you go for it, good luck!

Why not try to get more involved with school and activities?
If not interested in giving up personal time well maybe position not really for you. But if you do this perhaps showing initiative in ongoing parent projects get involved with fund raising's never contradict the principle member is the key factor of the whole thing try talking to other people involved with the PTA perhaps their might be someone else more qualified please don't get me wrong but in order to a president one should show some type of leadership.and I don't see it just in your question? One has to be a go getter. In any leadership position.....

I am entering the elections to become the president of a school PTA.
Why do you ask? Am I making a big mistake?
