In Islam all over the world They agree about the oneness of God They follow the same book - Quran(same words and letters all over the world). They follow the same prophet Muhammad . offer their prayers five time a day. fast in the month of Ramadan.Give charity (Zakat) which is the poor-due on the wealth of the rich go for hajj, pilgrimage to Mecca ...but they may have differnt opinions not on the basics
Those who follow some sayings and views of Ali (one of the early muslims leaders), as the rightful successor to Prophet Muhammad , are called Shia. Shia means a partisan (party of Ali) and it started more as a political party to help Ali in his conflict with his political adversaries.
About 90% of Muslims are Sunni, the word Sunni is based on the word Sunnah which is an Arabic word means the Prophet's Doctrine. Sunnis believe in (GOD) as the One Creator and Mohammad is His last and final Messenger.
but you have to know that the sects in islam not like the sects in other religions in other religions1- they can change in their books for example the Catholic Bible contain 73 books while the Protestant Bible has only 66 in Islam no one can change any thing There is not even one word of difference between two Arabic Qur'ans, anywhere in the world. There has been no disagreements in history among Muslims as to what should and should not be in the Qur'an
The Sunnah or Hadith consists of the teachings, sayings, and actions of Prophet Muhammad. This information was meticulously reported and collected by his Companions. It is essentially an elaboration of the Qur'anic verses that shows how they are to be implemented in one's daily life ALLthe true muslims agree about that
Such divisions arose, the Qur'an points out, because of undue selfishness, transgression, aggression and mutual jealousy (al-Baqarah 2:213; Al 'Imran 3:19). The Qur'an also points out that these divisions arose among people when they ignored the word of Allah and His guidance and "sold Allah's words for a paltry price"(al-Baqarah 2:79), when they went to extremes (ghuluww) in their religion, when they corrupted Allah's message (tahrif), when they consigned some part of it to oblivion, or when they took one part of Allah's teachings and ignored the other. Each group divided up Allah's messages and instead of following the knowledge (al-'ilm) that was given to them by Allah's prophets, they followed their own whims and wishes (ahwa').
Thus some evil religious leaders went astray and also misled their followers (al-Baqarah 2:120, 121; al-Ma'idah 5:177; Al-An'am 6:119; al-Rum 30:29; al-Jathiyah 45:18; Muhammad 47:14, 16)
The Qur'an makes us fully aware that there are a variety of religious communities, each happy with its own version of the truth (al-Mu'minun 23:53; al-Rum 30:32). They all possess some truth which is a part of the true Islam in their midst, but regrettably none of them has preserved the message of Allah in its complete and authentic form (al-Ma'idah 5:13-14). Allah sent Prophet Muhammad to guide humanity to the original and authentic faith and the message of Allah.

That is the greatest tragedy of all religions. Immediately after the Founder's death, followers vie with each other in interpreting what the founder had said. In the process, they not only fight among themselves, but also create mutually hating sects and sub-sects

Yes, they are both muslim, as are the sunnis. They dislike each other because they believe different details of their religions. Similar to the sects of christianity, some sects (baptists, anglicans, methodists, roman catholics, greek orthodox catholics) are so far apart on certain issues, there does not seem to be any common ground.

All humans get pushed around and put down. This creates bad
feelings in the self, and the ego mind overcompensates and creates false prides. Like sexism, racism, nationalism, and
religious intolerence.
Pride, believing in, and being comfortable with onesself for
who he or she is, is good. False pride, thinking one is better than
others for who they are, is bad.
This and Blood Vengeance, wanting to get even, are the real
evils.

Because the Devil (to quote the Christians) is in the details.
It's because they focus on all those things that divide them, which is the selfish act of presumed supremacy, rather than nurture those things that make them one. What ever you feed, will grow.
A house divided cannot stand.
we all do it.
In the US, we label people by the color of their skin or the continents and nations of their heritage and sometimes by their language. We further divide humanity by their particular belief system.
edit: How do you know that these people hate each other?

Both are two different schools of thoughts, though believing the same Creator with all His names and qualities, the same book Quran as the last guidance and the same Prophet as the last guide.

It is human nature to focus on differences and be prejudiced against one another. Other people exploit this human weakness to divide people and gain an advantage over them.
