Yesturday I had to lift 70 lbs. Which is too much for me. I can't really lift with my knees, as best as I can with my back, so that's why I have a terribly sore back right now. It hurts to move it any which way and do anything with it. Anything I can do to make my back feel better?

You may have a slipped or herniated disc. However, once diagnosed by a doctor through MRI's or X-Ray's this problem could eventually be treated and reversed through exercises, medicines diet and exercise. The plan for treatment all depends on the diagnosis, but the prognosis could be fair to good. Go see your doctor to determine exactly what the problem is. Who knows, you could be pulling a muscle that you didn't even know about, it could be something that simple. Also, try to take a hot bath and soak. When you're done, apply a cold press or an ice pack for 15 minutes or so. Stay relaxed, stay off your feet and keep taking Tylenol or Advil to reduce pain. Sit up straight (no slouching). If possible, have somebody give you a back massage. That can really help too. Get lots of rest!!! Good luck!

Are you so sure it's your muscles?

Go see a chiropractor. Many people think that their back pain is muscle pain but all too many times it the spine out of adjustment and the 4th and 5th lumbar are the main ones to go out so easily.

If it is your spine, the doctor (chiropractor) can adjust you and have you back to your old self in a few visits. It's a slightly slow process but don't give up on it. It's worked for me MANY times in the past and the best part is, no pills.

Molasses - a couple of swigs or Bananas 1 or 2 - both contain magnesium and potassium for muscles.
Try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist with it.

try a heating pad and some ibuprofen (advil etc) if that does not work you may need a muscle relaxant, that will need to be prescribed by a doctor, if you have something like valium that will also work and rest (not laying on a sofa or bed but rather on a firm chair) no bending and no lifting as that will make the pain worse.
