I am about to buy a new computer and I need Microsoft Word and I was wondering if Vista Home Premium Edition contains it.

No, but many computer manufacturers include either a version of MS Office (with word) or MS Works (word-like capabilities).

If I were you, I'd hold off on Vista and get XP. Best scenario is finding a computer that XP installed with Vista upgrade coupon. Vista is a little flakey for general use.

You have to buy Microsoft Word and Windows Vista separately

No it does not, they want to sell you Word separately. Just go to Dell or HP and you will see the additional cost. There is word program though but I find it lacking when compared to Word, but I guess that is what you pay for.
