i think that is the problem im not sure,when i put the digital camera software and manual cd in it doesnt seem to register i know that the cdrom is reading it but nothing comes up, by the way the camera that i got is vivitar vivacam 55, i downloaded the mydsc from website and it also said i need adobe reader,but when i tried to down load reader it said it needed to close, when i bring up mydsc and try to download my pictures it says there is no camera detected as well when i put it in webcam mode it also says the same thing, im lost here please hlp!

ok try this.......

shut computer down.
start up.
give it a min to come up.
pop in the cd from the cam.
if nothing pops up go to start and clink on run, choose browse and pick the cdrom that cd is in and try opening it from there.make sure nothing is pluged in to your usb port that as any connection to the cam.

Hi. When you installed the camera for the first time was the software for it already installed? If not then a generic driver would have been loaded. I would go to "Start> Control panel> System> Hardware> Device manager> ". Find the listing for your camera and uninstall it. Reboot. Install the CD and load the programs which will include the proper driver. THEN hook up the camera. Good luck!

First thing is to uninstall the driver. Then try to reinstall it and follow the instructions given by the install program exactly. If the CD doesn't automatically start up, go to my computer, locate the hard drive and look for a file called setup.
Alternately, uninstall the driver, then plug in the camera and follow the instructions from Windows to install drivers for new hardware.
