I've noticed many airline flight attendants, and others wearing wedding bands but I suspect some are not married, but merely doing it to avoid getting hit on all the time.

What I want to know is how prevalent is this practice, and any experiences you may have had involving yourself or your friends.

You are correct in believing that not all wedding rings are the real item. It is a common practice for servers (waitresses, bartenders, etc) that want less "attention" to wear an mock engagement ring or wedding set. Once the man is alerted to the fact that she is "taken"... she can do her job without the additional bother.

My daughter has done this as well as many of her friends in the restaurant she works at (especially the female bartender)!

Whether a woman is married or not, if she is wearing a "wedding band" she is unavailable. Even if it is just that she doesn't feel like putting up with getting hit on, she is closed to the idea of putting up with issue - that means you would be waisting you time either way. Just concentrate on the women out there who don't have on rings - they are open to the possiblity of things.

Personally, my friends and I never did the fake ring, but I have been married for almost 10 years so I can't say exactly how many women do this now.

Take the hint, if they are not married, they realize the universal sign to say that they are committed or at least, don't want to be bothered is "The Wedding Ring".

So in answer to your question, it really doesn't matter, whether you are right or not.
