I would like to do it effectively and in a caring manner, because we are not very close, but I really care. What are some of the dangers or downsides to smoking?

I will give you some good advice on this subject. If you are not really close you can not give him any advice to stop smoking. Smokers have heard all the pros and cons to smoking. If your friend has been smoking a long while then your friend is hooked on the Nicitine. Your friend is the only one that can decide to stop. No matter what you say or do your friend will not stop. To not get any further apart, It would best for you to not say anything. Let your friend alone. You can tell your friend that it is harmful but he or she knows that. Smokers just refuse to want to understand that it is harmful to their bodies. They will quit only when They Decide TO Quit, Or they get Cancer, Lung Decease, or anyone of the hundreds of sicknesses related to smoking, or DIE. Then they will stop.

Sounds like you don't want to quit smoking to me. My advice for quitting smoking: I set a quit date 6 months in advance. During those six months, I dropped one smoke per two weeks from my daily habit. By the time I reached my quit date, I was down to 1-2 smokes per day. Getting b*tchy would have been less embarrassing, but I just kept breaking down crying for next to no reason. But it was worth it. I had a flight all the way to Australia. It's a long flight but not nearly so bad for an ex-smoker than it is for a smoker.

If your friend does not want to stop smoking, who can`t stop them. Try to tell them true life stories about people who have suffered from smoking. Try and find someone who your friend really likes who gave up smoking and that should encourage them. Try and get them a certain day or date for a target to give up smoking. Good luck.

let him know how bad cigarette smoking can be for his health. if he's a guy, freak him out by saying smoking can be a cause of sterility/impotence. smoking affects the quality of a man's sperm. if that's not enough, tell the person that smoking increases his chance of getting COPD, which includes asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, which could ultimately lead to lung cancer.

It causes lung, heart, liver, brain, and kidney(believe it or not) failures. it also causes yellowish teeth which look icky. It's hard to quit smoking but my dad tried eating these candies which leaves a chemical in your mouth, by which you will experience terribly bad taste when you smoke again..

tell him/her that smoking is bad it gives you: wrinkles, yellow teeth, bad breath, thinks out hair, loses hair, emphysema, heart problems, lung cancers, tar buildup in your lungs, makes you dehydrate faster, makes you and your stuff smell bad, people most likely will avoid them, early death, increases chances of heat attacks, and other body functions. TELL YOUR FRIEND IT S BETER TO BE SMOKE FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*! *Hope your friend quits and I hope this information helps.*
