I use proactiv right now and it really hasnt done much for me. It's not bad but, for me, it's not a wonder acne treatment. If I were you and you are willing to spend that much on medication... go to a dermatologist... or even your regular doctor. They can give you something that is ten times better. My sister has bad acne and just went to her regular doctor and he gave her some cream and pills that worked wonders. If your acne isnt that bad try just using non scented dove soap and rinse it with warm water. Then put benzoil peroxide cream right on the zits. You could also use a cleansing mask once a week to open the pores and get some of the gunk out. And always keep your face moisturized with facial lotion. Hope that helps and good luck.

my wife uses proactiv and it really works, but I found something cheaper in the grocery store that has the same ingredients and states better results than proactiv. Benzoyl peroxide is the main ingredient. The name of the cheaper product is acne free clear skin system made by University Medical Phamacuiticals.

My understanding is that acne is now 100% treatable. If you have medical insurance, you should see a doctor. I have acne rosacea, which is a form of adult acne, and my doctor prescribed an antibiotic which I start taking at the first sign of a breakout. Using an exfoliant to clean the skin is also really important. Really works.

Hi there,

I think most people go for acne products which treat the symptoms, but if you really want to get rid of your acne you need to get to the source! I have copied + pasted this article which pretty much sums up all you need to do! The site also reviews the more serious medical products!

Best Acne Treatment - Tip #1
Clean your skin twice a day with mild soap free cleanser. Nothing too strong or perfumed. Dry with a clean towel - get a new one each day.

Best Acne Treatment - Tip #2
If you wear makeup remove it separately first with a light milky cleaner and cotton pads.

Best Acne Treatment - Tip #3
Only tone if you have too. Limit your products to avoid over exposure to chemicals and bad reactions so you can tailor make them into the best acne treatment for you.

Best Acne Treatment - Tip #4
Moisturise with a light cream, nothing too greasy. Even if you feel oily enough, don't skimp on this as your skin needs moisturisation even in this nasty state.

Best Acne Treatment - Tip #5
If you are applying makeup - this is also for guys that are using concealer (nothing to be ashamed of by the way) use only the cleanest of makeup brushes or even better, your fresh fingers to apply. Chuck out all old manky brushes and stick to cotton wool buds. Don't wear makeup in the house so your skin can get as much air as possible but of course I understand that you need to cover up to face the world. I recommend Lancome foundations as they don't seem to clog the skin too much. A non comogenic powder, in plain English, a non clogging one is better than a thicker one, so do the switch if you can.

Best Acne Treatment - Difficult Tips
The following tips are more difficult to follow but well worth it -

Don't touch your face EVER - only to clean your face when your fingers are brand spankingly clean.

Avoid sweating - all the doctors tell you to keep excersising frantically, but frankly it's bull***. Change to yoga or less heated sports as sweat is not your best friend.

Drink tonnes of water - also herbal teas. You need to help your body to pee all those nasty toxins out so get slurping.

Reduce dairy and wheat foods - this is tough but with many people it really works. I don't buy that theory that what you eat and drink doesn't affect acne. Of course it does. Anyone that is serious about their acne treatment will do anything to help themselves.

Stop smoking - all the best acne treatments in the world are not performing at their most powerful if you are sucking up fumes all day. Cut it out - and PS yes, it stinks. Anyone that has so little respect for their bodies and of those around them does not deserve to have good skin.
