I am 55 and in good health. I have 2 fully functioning kidneys back to back on my left side, and one fully functioning on my right. All the "lines" are present and of course they all feed into my bladder. As I grow older will there be problems or should I "donate" one? If so can it be one of those back to back ones? For additional info I have O+ blood.

Never heard of 3 kidneys before. If all the tubes feed in correctly, no reason why you couldn't donate one. But I'm not a doctor, you should be asking an expert. Seems like you got my other kidney, I was born with only one functioning. I may need it back !

If you've lived with it 55 years, it shouldn't be a problem. If you'd like to donate one, the biggest problem would probably be the surgery itself rather than losing a kidney.

Good for you!

Go ahead and donate PJ...especially if you are in good health and can tolerate the surgery. Having that O blood type is good too, especially since it is the universal donor type blood. See there...that should answer your question. How lucky for the person who would get that donation.

Thats like having a Boing 727 (3 engines) as opposed to a 737 (2 engines). In aviation and critical body function, redundancies, as they are called, are a good thing. I don't see it as a problem. You likely could donate one. As to which one...Well a docter would need to assess that directly. Jason

I don't really believe you, sorry, not do I think this is the forum to answer that question...if you are really 55, you should know that already...
Giving you the benefit of the doubt, any organs living or non living people have that can benefit others should be dontated...(not to the injury of the living) but all of us should be organ donars in life and death when possible...it's just parts..
