my dog has been having some problems over the last few days. we have taken him to the vet twice and they found nothing in his blood that was abnormal. but when they took an xray it showed that his spleen is very large. his liver is also bigger than normal. we have been refereed to a specialist in the city about 40 min away. but the only problem is that we have to wait until wednesday until they can see him. our vet has done all she can do. we are just waiting for the ultrasound. it is an hour and a half until the vet opens so i can talk to them. the thing is that he had been very droopy, and now he can barley get up. he wont eat anymore. what can i do? and please dont give me stupid answers , this is very hard. i am 17 and my mom is in the hospital so things are even more complicated than ever.

I am really sorry, I wish I could help. The truth is I am not a vet, and whatever anyone can tell you over the net is not valid. I understand how hard this is for you, for your mum and for the dog. Good luck, I just wish you the best. My advice is go to a very experienced vet and follow his instructions, there's not much else you can do.

Can you get ahold of an emergency doctor? If you call your regular vet now, there may be a message telling you how to get ahold of someone in an emergency. With the large spleen, I am worried about internal bleeding. Check his gums, they should be pink. If they are white, that's a sign of shock or blood loss. You can try to give him some honey or Karo syrup in case his blood sugar is low in the meantime, but get ahold of a vet as soon as you can.

Call your vet and explain the change in your dog, they may have a suggestion as to what to do, if there is anything you can do, untill you can get the dog to a specialist. Good luck

Wow, make sure to try and keep the dog hydrated, if you can, try little morsels of food. even baby food if necessary. You never mentioned the age of the dog. When my dog was sick I could get him to lick peanut butter off the spoon. I would really suggest that you make him take water until he gets to the vets, they are the only ones that can really help. Take care.

well listen do the best you can to cope with it. try to rap it up in blankets or force some food and water down its throat. i know i may only be 13 but still that is like common sense. it needs something in its system to fight away what ever is wrong with him? good luck with your dog and mom!!!
