In history war has always had a purpose with the winner having something to gain. What is the worlds problem with colonization these days? It just seems to me that Iraq could pay for itself and we could stay there continually monitoring the situation if we just made it a territory. If we policed it ourselves and reaped the benefits the people would have a better life and we would solve most of our problems there.

In modern times something you gain doesn't have to be tangible. The thing we have to gain is it's a foot hold of democracy in the Middle East. Creating a democracy in a nondemocratic area of the world will change the course of history. This is also the reason we are having problems in Iraq. The Middle East has for the most part been a dictatorship of some kind or a puppet democracy. The people in Iraq want this desperately and all the other nations in the Middle East are scared that Iraq will succeed since their people will want a free society as well.

Colonization went out with the British Empire. We have not "won" anything to lay claim to a prize. I t is hard to believe that anyone would consider staying in any country and claim the riches of that country. Our troops are not a "police" force and this is not the crusades!!!
I hate to say it but the average person in Iraq was better off before the invasion than what they are at the present time.

We have never reaped fortune from War. You must be a Hagger the Horrible fan. After World War II we helped rebuild Germany and Japan. We didn't rape them. I think we should pull out our troops give them several Billions in reparations and hope for the best. We have no business there. They did not attack us but the War opened up a playing field for terrorist were none had been.

Our spoils arent women and gold like in Roman times but we do get benefits. Mostly the spread of Americana, such as coke and marlboro cigarettes. Wars in far off exotic places like Iraq and Afganistan are great for advertising our way of life. Kindda like giving European kids chocolate in World War 2.

In my opinion Osama Bin Laden and the North Korean government are working against themselves. If they keep drawing our attention it wont be long before their kids will be buying Playboys from the 7-eleven on every corner in the Mid-east and North Korea.
