I really like the elliptical. It puts you off balance, so you're not only working your legs, your working your butt and back too. You just have to make sure you stay in your target heart rate for as long as you can. You can find that out here: http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/tl/cl/thr/one.jsp

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!

before you purchase any exercise equipment. Walk around your block or a track for a month or so to create a habit.
If after that time you have successfully done so then invest in the elliptical.

Okay, you're FINE.
"Normal" <----- This is a LIE, everyone has their own normal, but crackpot scientists say this.
5' 0"= 100 lbs
+1"= +10 lbs
so, 160 lbs is "normal" for 5'6"
DO NOT DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
Make yourself puke up food
Starve yourself
DO DO THE FOLLOWING:
Instead of 2,000 calories a day (normal) try 1,800 calories a day= a bowl of ice cream
Excercise!

Ellipticals provide a pretty good workout. If you're not sure if you'd like it, try it out at a gym first and see if you like the kind of workout it gives you.
Good luck!

You do not need to lose that much weight! Go to http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/index.htm (CDC) and check your height/weight ratio for your actual body mass. They have a cool calculator you can put your information into. 10 lbs. lost would put you into a normal ratio. Eat healthy, exercise moderately and you should be fine.

well it is if you eat well.
Depending on which type of eliptical you get, there are setting such as cardio and fat burn and elipticals are easier on the knees then treadmills. I like them alot more.
