You could probably still use it for cooking.

If the wine tastes awful is probable that it has been overly exposed to oxigen (opened too much time, stored too much time upwards).
If this is the case, this is not a wine anymore, its just vinegar (vinegar is made from the oxidation of ethanol in wine), so I recommend you to use it for a salad dressing or for cooking.
Good luck!

You can cook with it (broil a steak and add redwine to the pan to make a sauce with mushroom and shallot and butter), you can use it to marinate a steak (add salt, pepper, onion, garlic, wine and olive oil) or you can let it sit corked for a few weeks till it turns into vinegar and use it for salad dressing.
But if it tastes that dreadful, why would you want to add it as a flavoring agent in other food?

I use it to cook with. It is good to use with beef. It is part of my base for a beef gravy. It takes about half the bottle for a good amount of gravy. But there are also a lot of other ingredients I add before I reduce it to a gravy. It is also good for a marinade when mixed with olive oil, honey and some other stuff. You can also use it with a dish called Steak Dianne. You saute' with it.

You can cook with it, but if it is that bad maybe you should just dump it down the drain.
