Hi,
When a dog barks, it is definitely for a reason, this include your dashund,
Barking dog’s use their barks as a most overt mode of expression. they bark to express themselves to other dogs, to other people, or simply to express their deep sense of emotional angst when they are all by themselves.
In any case, even when your dashund seems to be barking at nothing, you can bet they’re barking for something.
Rule out the obvious first: if they start to bark toward the end of the day, they could be hungry. If they bark after being left contained for a few hours, they could need exercise (or perhaps a bathroom break).
Once you have ruled out the obvious, you would be able to identify causes that cause your Dashund to Bark.
Barking will be caused by either an external or internal stimulus. An “attention-getting” bark arises from an internal distress. A bark meant to sound an alert arises from a passing person, or dog, or insect as the case may be.
You can address internal stimulus through training, such as either ignoring an attention-getting bark until your dog settles, then rewarding his ability to quiet down, or holding your dog’s snout firmly and asking it, gently, to “Shhh.” Again, reward the right response.
In addition, you can often eliminate external stimulus through common sense.
For example, a dog was well-behaved and generally quiet. but the sound of the doorbell drove it into a barking frenzy.
You can remove the doorbell and ask visitors to “Please knock” by way of a small sign where the doorbell used to be. Problem solved.

duct tape? Do not squirt your dog. Squirting a dog will make it afraid of water and you will have hell trying to get it in the tub for a bath.
Do not use duct tape either....I was just being a smart alex. I do know that squirting your dog is a no no !
A friend of mine had his poodle who barked at every little noise it would hear. They took it to the vet and they removed it's vocal cords. Now when the dog barks nothing comes out and is very funny to see. Only down fall to this is if your have a home invasion in the middle of the night, you do not have a dog to alert you !

I read that when people are training their small dogs, like a Chihuahua or another breed they keep a squirt bottle with them and every time the dog barks they squirt it's butt.

socialize him/her. We had a dachshund that unfortunately, wasn't socialized and barked non-stop. I was young and she was my first 'own' puppy, I thought if you just love them and spoil them and baby them, they'll be perfect dogs! I couldn't have been more wrong!! I had created a monster. You have to socialize your dogs. It's better for them and everyone else around and a lot easier for you. It's also a sign of boredom, make sure you go on regular walks... good luck!

i have one, and i use a squirt bottle. spray him in the butt, and he'll stop it. the only thing is that mine comes over for a drink from the bottle, so it doesn't really scare him. but it does stop him for the time being.
dachs are good guard dogs. they will warn you, but will probably just roll over for a belly scratch if someone does come into the house.
