I was wandering. I am 15 and a male, and I love kids. I have 1 brother and 2 sisters and my dad's girlfriend has 2 little boys. I have plenty of experience, and in most cases, kids usually love me within just a few mins... What do you think?

I know alot of people think this is probably like a sexist question but it isnt. I make really good grades, and I ALWAYS get really good comments on how I dress, from adults at school. I have babysat for my grandparents neighbors kids a few times. If it was me, I would perfer to babysat males over females because, well, I am a male, and I know more things to do with boys from exp. I just need to know some good answers, because, I dont want to make myself look bad.

No offense, but I probably wouldn't have a male babysitter unless I knew him REALLY well. I realize that is sexist and unfair, but I wanted to give you an honest answer.
If you are determined to become a babysitter, I would suggest taking a babysitter course and CPR. Perhaps even volunteering at a church daycare. You can list these things on your resume and perhaps that will be enough to get you a job with some parents. You will most likely always have to "prove" yourself and explain why a teenage boy WANTS to babysit, but once you get your foot in the door and establish a good reputation as a babysitter, maybe your services will be requested, especially by single moms with boys. I would leave the fact that you are straight out of it. That is nobody's business anyway.
As far as pay goes, a lot of it depends on your area and how many kids you will be watching. When we go out, my husband and I pay $8.00 per hour for 2 kids (ages 6 and 7).
Good luck!!

Nothing against you personally, but I would never hire a boy to babysit. Too many hormones out of control, and most boys dont have this desire to want to nuture like a female does. Get a manly job, and hang around people your own age more. Lack of self esteem makes a guy more comfortable around children because they get acceptance with children, this can lead to problems. I dont care if I'm called politically incorrect ! Any mother that allows a teen boy to babysit her children is stupid! I know of two different familys where the children were molested by these "boy" babysitters. Im sure your a good guy, sometimes men do a better job these days then the women, but at your age you should get a job out where you can meet a nice girl and hang with guys your age! hopefully I have woke up some dumb mother out there!

I wouldn't see any difference between hiring a straight or gay male to babysit kids. In this day and age, I think you could get some work as a babysitter, depending on how mature you are, and how you present yourself. To up your odds, take a CPR course. If you're a good guy, and people know it, you should have no problem getting work.

Yes I would, if I knew the kid and knew he was sufficiently sensible to handle the job. Fifteen is not too young to be babysitting if the kid is sensible, and the children he is sitting for are enough younger to pay attention to him. If the kids are no more than about 10, and they like the guy and trust him, and I like the guy and trust him, I'd have no qualms about letting the kids stay with him with an admonition to obey him as well as they do me.
And age is going to make no difference if a babysitter is not responsible and sensible. There are plenty of people twice your age I would not trust.

sure i would, but what do you mean by str8? that you're not gay? That is stupid, it doesn't matter. If you are trying to earn a little extra money, and you're good with kids, then why the heck not? Especially since you have experience with your siblings. There should be more male babysitters out there, because little boys would probably enjoy that!

Being a male doesnt determine anything. My cousins both boys babysat at around that age. It depends on if you have experience. if you were babysiting at your house and your mom was there i wouldnt mind or a grand parent or what not. But at 14 you arnt old enought to go to the hospital if something happens or determine what is a real emergency. a mothers helper would be a great job for you or doing lawn work. Good Luck

Yes I would definitly hire you. Men need experience as well tending to children, as one day they too will become parents. My brother babysat for our neighbour many times, they had two boys and they loved him. Don't feel bad for wanting to babysit, if you love kids, thats great, cause one day your going to be a dad, and your wife is going to really appreciate the fact that your great with your children, and a great help in taking care of them.

I see no problem, I'd hire you. Offer to do serious housework at the same time too and your value will probably double. It would also be a good example for the kids. Now if you could get the kids to also help, so that the parents could see, your price would go through the roof.

I have four children and lots and lots of male cousins who are the best babysitters ever. They love my children and the children love them. I don't think it makes any difference what sex you are to babysit, it depends on your skills. Have you had CPR training for children and a first aid course. If not, this is a great assest when you are looking for babysitting jobs. If you like to sit boys better, state this. There are lots of moms out there who are looking for good male role models for their sons.
Good luck, oh yeah, I pay $2.50 per hour for one child or $4.00 for two children.

Yeah. I used to babysit at the age of thirteen. It is fun to babysit little kids. I was paid $20 for a day, $10 for half a day, and $5 for a couple of hours.
