It just so happens that both my son and dog are vomiting this morning, and they both came out of nowhere. My dog had gotten ahold of some puppy food yesterday, so I'm not sure if that has caused it, but I was just curious.

Dogs can't give people the flu or colds nor can people give it to dogs. There are few things that cross species lines.
People can get roundworms/hookworms from pets but this is not all that common where basic proper hygeine is practiced.Leptospirosis and rabies are illnesses that can be transmitted between various species.

I think my daughter gave a 24 hour stomach flu to our dog on X-mas eve. My sister is a vet tech and was very concerned about our dog. She said to watch our dog have a bowel movement and if there was ANY blood to get to the vet and fast becuase there could be an obstruction. If your dogs stomach seems bloated at all I would also rush to the vet. Thankfully our dog was fine the next day but my sister did give her fluids. Dogs can dehyrdrate quickly, so if your dog is not taking in any fluids or is then throwing it right back up I would go to the vet.

Good luck!

There are very few diseases that cross the species barrier (which is why there is such concern over this bird flu).
You didn't say how old your son is (so I don't know if he's old enough to know better), but if your son and dog are both vomiting, they may have both eaten something they shouldn't have.

The only thing I'm aware of being transferred from human to canine, vice versa, is intestinal parasites.
