My radio makes a calling noise when i press the ptt button, how can i stop this ?? the range stated is 5 kilometres, which it never reaches, should i invest in a radio with a longer range to effectifly achieve 5 kilometres, for example one with 8 kilometres ?? finally, does any body have any advise on using these ?? thanks, alex

If there's nothing in the instruction manual about turning off the calling tone, it's probably not "turn-offable". As for the range, all pmr sets are limited by law to 0.5 watt. The range quoted is maximum and actual range is limited by terrain, buildings etc. Admittedly, some sets are more sensitive than others, but you're not going to get much more range than you are getting now on any pmr set. Actually, if you were on a hilltop and talking to someone on another hilltop you could probably get a range exceeding 8 km with your setup. As I said, it's all down to terrain.
