If you are in high school all you need to do is graduate to be eligible. You can start enlisted and become an officer through various programs in the Navy. You can't really work your way up to an officer you have to have a college degree to get a commission, but as I said there are ways to do this and earn a commission while you are enlisted. If you are in college it is better to join ROTC and get a commission as an Ensign when you graduate. If you want more information it is a good idea to make an effort to go to your local recruiting office or at least call them. If you don't know where they are you can always get a lot of good info on Navy.mil

You must have at least a Bachelors degree in order to join the Navy as an officer. I would suggest you join as an enlisted member first and then go to Officer Candidate School after you have some experience as an enlisted member. I say this only because you will have more understanding and appreciation than an officer who joins without enlisted time. It will also give you experience and you can earn you degree while you are enlisted for free in the same amount of time as someone who doesn't join the navy.

1st off I would become an officer no matter what Branch I entered. After you Graduate. Go to the Naval Academy for College. When You graduate you'll be a Lieutenant . You can serve as long as you want while increasing your rank, pay and benefits. FYI: I know someone who was in the Navy and never spent time on a ship. He did Satellite operations from a base. If you don' t want to goto the Naval acedemy. Just about any college has ROTC programs for the Army and Airforce. You'll enter the military as a Lieutenant. Plus, If you ever leave the Military you'll be a great candidate for a job since you were an Officer of the Greatest Military in the world ever to exist and you'll have your college degree.

You need at least a Bachelors to be able to join as an officer. You join as enlisted otherwise. You can go to the Naval Academy, but it's difficult to get in to. Usually people who goes there are hand picked from highschool. Once you graduate the naval academy you'll be an officer for the navy. There are several other ways you can be an officer too.

To enlist.. you need at least a HS diploma. to become an Officer, you need a 4 year degree(and be a US Citizen).
Having a degree is not a guarentee that you will be an Officer. in fact, there are thousands of enlisted personnel with Masters degrees or Doctorates.
In HS, all you need to do is pass the ASVAB. you actual HS grades don't matter as much as the Line Scores on the ASVAB. Those determine which ratings you are eligible for. Other qualifications must be met.. height/weight/body fat, some ratings require a Clearance, so you must be a citizen. others require normal color perception. others require eyesight that be corrected to 20/20.
If you are a Junior in HS, you can talk to recruiter now to get a feel for things. You don't have to wait for one to come to your school, as many schools have this misconception and refuse to allow recruiters on campus.

If you want to be enlisted, or dont want to go to a 4 year school after High School, go talk to a recruiter. (There should be a number in your phonebook)
If you want to be an officer you can do 1 of 3 things...
-Go through NROTC at a college of your choice (MOST colleges have the program)
-Go to the Naval Academy at Annapolis
-Or work your way up from enlisted to officer which takes at least a decade minumum.

If you have really no skills you would go in as an E1,
If you have a degree you can go in as an officer (Ensign).
