Jesus told me to love my neighbors. Some of my neighbors are atheists. Is there any real Christian justification for provoking arguments? I say no as I believe Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

Here are two of the passages that describe how you should behave when you are with Atheists.

1 Peter 3:14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15 but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; 16 yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

2 Timothy 2:23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. 24 And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

Jesus said to treat others as you would want to be treated, you should be nice to your neighbors and maybe try to talk to them about it. No need to provoke a fight. If you see that it's just not going to work then leave it alone.

Ok, Jesus did in fact tell him that. It's in the bible. And yes, you should be good to Atheists. You should ask them about why they don't believe and let them ask you why you do believe. You should try answer their questions backing up what you say with verses.
It doesn't matter if they're Atheists, Buddhists, or whatever they are, you should be good to everyone you come in contact with in your life.
Have a nice day.

I don't believe that Jesus told you anything, but I do agree that you should love your neighbors, even atheists.

Yep. Remember Jesus's greatest commandment: Matthew 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And He said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' "This is the great and foremost commandment. "The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' "On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."
The bottom line: You have to be nice to everyone.

We are to preach the Gospel, the "Good New", but not everybody hears it as good news to them.

2Co. 2:15-16 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing to the one we are the aroma of death to death, and to the other the aroma of life to life. And WHO is sufficient for theses things?(NKFV)

When Jesus stood up in His own home town and read from the scroll of Isaiah, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor..." The people tried to throw Him off the cliff on the edge of the city.

When Paul preached in one place he had to restrain them from offering sacrifices to him., they considering he was a god. later when pharisees came they turned the people against them and they stoned Paul.

When Peter was in prison the angle of God came and retrieved him then he was later found preaching again the Name of Christ. They brought him before the authorities again and they warned him to stop but Peter's response was, "You judge for yourself what is right, to obey man or God, but we cannot help but to proclaim what we have both seen and heard.

Are we starting arguments?

When sunlight is cast on wax and on clay the wax will melt and the clay will harden but there will be a reaction. to have no reaction is to have no Son-light.

Jesus also said something about the people who love the people like themselves is no big deal. We should love everybody, including enemies.

I think you should get checked out by your doctor. It is not normal to hear a dead person telling you what to do. Could be the sign of a severe medical problem.
