1. it is a rough estimation. Our Clalandar, known as the Gregorian Calandar was added up by a monk who was hired by pope Gregor to figure out when the birth of Christ was. Today, we think he was around 5-7years off, but considering he was working in the middle ages with just documents, give the guy a break. Now the Chinese Calandar is going by the origin of their civilization, since they have been counting. Another words, they have a different point of origin than we do. Ours is the birth of Christ, theirs is the birth of their civilization. We also, don't discredit history before that, we just say that it is BC, before christ. The birth of Christ in western civilization at the time of the Gregorian calandar and now is a very important mark. Nowadays, you are suppose to use BCE (before the common era) and CE (common era). I find this a bit redicoulous (and I am an atheist) since the point of refernce for the Common Era is still the birth of Christ. I think I am done now.

A mid-evil monk calculated reigns of kings to establish the timing of Christ's birth. In a similar method, historians calculate that Herod the Great died in 4 BC. So under the assumption that the gospel according to Matthew has some barring of truth, many feel Jesus' birth couldn't have come after that year.

The Chinese year is certainly not based on the birth of Christ. A year gets the number we give it.

Nobody even thought about using the AD notation until about 750 years after the supposed "birth" of Christ. Even the Roman church used the foundation of Rome as their year "0" until about the year 900 of our era. Hardly anyone noticed when humanity entered the year 1,000 of our common era.

Chances are there wasn't even a Jesus christ at all, so yes, 2007 is just a reference, nothing real to it.
