Yeah it's a bad idea. Labs need a great deal of exercise and love to be outside. They are also chewers. I have a Lab/Golden mix and we had to live in an apt for a short time. I took her to the park daily and on short walks 3 times a day, but she was miserable. She ate three rugs and my sofa one night, when previously she was well-behaved. I've found that Labs prefer to be outside, even if they are just laying around. Maybe look for a smaller, more laid-back dog, or an older less active one. Good luck.

Not at all - NYC is an extremely dog friendly City!
Labs are large, but they're not over-active - Most of them prefer to lay around when they're inside vs. something like a Dalmatian that would bounce off the walls.
Even though you've got a one bedroom, there are plenty of neighborhood parks in the city, with almost off of them having double-gated dog parks.

You know labs are large dogs and require lots of space. However, as you mentioned, you have lots of time to take the dog out and give it lots of attention. If you don't forsee your future on that changing, then by all means, yes get the dog of your choice. The dog will be very lucky to have lots of love, attention and exercise. And you will be rewarded also.

Honestly, I would get a smaller dog maybe even 2 smaller dogs but you wouldnt want you lab to feel liked it was cramed inside. If you get little dogs(chihuahuah and others) they would have more room and they can be more or as much fun. I have a chihuhua and she is very fast at running see little dogs love big dog activites too

Heck Yes!!
Labs LOVE to run, swim, and not only that, they get stir crazy, In other words they will more than likely tear your place apart, and drive your neighbors totally nuts..
Don't get me wrong, Labs are AWESOME dogs, just not so much for the city life.
Other dogs would probably suit your lifestyle and living arrangements more accordingly

Well yes, you might want to get a smaller dog in a 1 bedroom apartment. This just my opinion.

Dogs are not space-intensive so much as they're time-intensive. Especially younger dogs - they can be super hyper and will need a lot of attention and activities to keep them busy.

Are you purchasing from a reputable breeder? Labs bought from stores and back yard breeders have a very bad reputation. Please do your homework so you are not heartbroken by a sick dog later on!

labs are big dogs so you need to decide if your apartment is really big enough. But if you have plenty of time to take it for walks and look after it then it should be ok if its just the two of u

I'm sure there are 1000's of big dogs living in NYC. As long as you give him plenty of exercise outside, and lots of attention, he will be fine. Make sure this is allowed by your building! (sorry to point that out better safe than sorry)
