Both are equally bad.
Anyone who has not shown their dog or earned some type of titles on the dog or had all the appropiate testing done on the dog before breeding is not doing anything nice for dogs. If they are breeding outside of the breed standards or poorly conformed dogs. Dogs who could not preform the job they were bred to do should not be breeding.
People with out the correct knowledge and with out the quality of dog needed for breeding.
Even pure breds end up in shelters. I work with a doberman rescue and we get many papered pure breds who are in rescue just the same. We see alot of nice dogs but very very few that would or should have ever been bred.

The golden-doodle and labra-doodle were deliberately created by crossing the retriever and a standard poodle. They are quickly becoming a highly desirable breed. Many cross breeds are actually sought out by dog people.
Neither of these breeders is especially bad. The problem is with the people who buy or adopt a dog and then decide, because they are too lazy to get off their butts, that they don't have the time to train the dog that they have a bad dog. These are the ones that drop the dogs off at the shelters or leave them on the side of the road without their tags.
Except for puppy mills, your barking up the wrong tree.

With the gross pet overpopulation I would have to say "all the above" Of course backyard breeders and puppy mills are the worst. However responsible breeders that go by the book also add to the problem by way over breeding. There are way too many dogs born. End of story. Here is some info about just that. I usually share it with people wanting to breed their pets.

That coupled with the health benefits of spay/neuter WHY would you breed your dog? www.sniksnak.com/benefits.html

People who intentionally mix breeds & claim they are creating a 'designer dog' to line their pockets. Thats why you should adopt from a shelter.

They're kind of the same thing - Most "Designer" dogs are registered CKC/APRI/APR because reputable registries don't recognize the breed (MUTT). If it walks, they'll register it.

Its funny that this question relates to our society as we are "Breeders" or reproducers. What if everyone only had kids w/ someone of their same race/nationality, diversity would be almost nonexistent. I guess its never bad to mix breeds, you can end up w/ something beautiful. But, I would say the pure breeders are less worse because they most likely are doing it for the profit, since pure breads are expensive and investments.

I agree, is this a trick questions?
IMO, anyone who breeds out of the breed standard is bad. Why breed any mutts if you can get a nice dog at a shelter or the SPCA? IMO, Leave the breeding to those who are breeding to better the breed and to standard.

People who don't look for homes for the puppies and will sell them to just anyone. I think a breeder is alright if they take good care of the mothers, give them time to rest, and give the puppies the best possible care, and personnally meet all potential owners.
