I found this from a search. It says up to eight but it is rare. Usually between 2 and 5.

There is no exact answer to your question. Cats can have 1 or even 13 kittens but neither is average. When the female is in heat she can get pregnant by more than one male. Every time she mates more eggs are released therefore more kittens. The male cat has a penis similar to a pine tree. It goes in smooth but when it is extracted from the female it scratches her inside triggering more eggs to be released. Unless there's an ultrasound it's a guessing game. I've seen a tiny female have 8 kittens and another with a huge abdomen only have 2.

Well, it depends on the size of the cat, but I know of cats having up to 12 or 14 kittens in one litter. WOW! But on average I would say usually 7 or 8, but as with all pregnancies in cats and dogs, the numbers can always go higher or lower. Depends how busy momma has been.
