Not everyone accepts the trinity. In the 16th century, those who rejected it—some of whom were later called Unitarians, as opposed to Trinitarians—often became the object of intense persecution by Catholics and Protestants alike. They printed their widely read works under pseudonyms and hid themselves away to avoid persecution. Anti-Trinitarians were also at the forefront in the fight for tolerance.

John Calvin was a famous clergyman in Geneva, but he came to have enormous political influence as well. When Michael Servetus demonstrated that the Trinity has no basis in Scripture, Calvin used his political influence to support the execution of Servetus, who was burned at the stake. What a horrific departure from Jesus’ teachings!

Today, those who reject the trinity may not be burned at the stake, but they are still the object of hatred by those who believe the trinity. Those who reject it are accused of not being real Christians. Jehovah's Witnesses do not accept the trinity for one good reason. It is not in the Bible.

Most trinitarians do not even know the rules of their own beliefs. According to the trinity, as defined by the Athanasian Creed, MORE is involved than merely saying that the Father, Son and holy spirit are all God. They must ALSO be co-equal, co-eternal, and almighty. Is there ANY scripture in the Bible that describes God in this manner? Let's look at some trinitarian "proofs".

John 1:1 says (in some Bibles): "the Word was with God and the Word was God." Do you see anything here that says God is composed of 3 co-eternal persons that make up God? No. It's doesn't even mention 3 persons. It only mentions 2.

John 10:30: "I and the Father are one." Where is the trinity here? It's not. Again, only 2 persons are mentioned.

John 8:58 (in some Bibles): "Before Abraham was I Am." Does Jesus say here that he is part of a triune godhead, in which they ar all co-equal and co-eternal? Not even close.

At Matt. 28:19, the Father, Son, and holy spirit are all mentioned in the same verse. Does that prove the trinity? Well, does it say ANYTHING about their being co-equal, co-eternal, and almighty AND that they make up the same God? No.

So, the trinity is not a Bible teaching. But those who reject it are still viewed as trash by those who believe it.

I don't believe that people are burned for not believing in the Trinity. However, in many places people are being persecuted and imprisoned or have been fired from their jobs for not being Christians.

For instance, where I live, we suffered a modern day witch hunt, where the government began to arrest and imprison people who practiced paganism, with the request of the Catholic Church (2002-2004) and support of the Protestants. Not many people where imprisoned, because few policemen enforced the law.

Of course, the support the Protestants gave to that law was lost when plans were discovered to declare Protestantism also illegal, and the government had plans to establish Catholicism as the only religion of the country.

Yes, almost all foreign Ambasadors began to protest the persecution of witches and in 2004 the law was revoked.

So you see, people are not being burned, but surely persecution does exist. I have not seen a pagan or witch trying to force to conversion any Christian, but I do see Christians trying to force Atheists, Budhists, Muslims, Pagans and Witches to convert to Christianism.
