So good to know I'm not the only one who has these worries!!! Didn't give anything a second thought before I had kids, now it seems I have to 'risk-assess' everything from 'do I have enough snacks and nappies in my bag' to 'what would I do if we were shipwrecked on a desert island'. yes, yes crazy I know! I just have to have a little chat with myself and take a few, slow deep breathes from time to time!

Think of it this way: Most airlines have AT LEAST 500 flights a day (500 for the smallest airlines). So to be conservative, lets say all US airlines have 500 flights a day. There are around 30 carriers that serve the US. 500 x 30= 15,000. Thats in one day. A crash doesn't occur in the US every year, but I'd say an average of maybe once a decade. 15,000 x 360 x 10= odds of dying equal 1:54,000,000. Don't forget thats a very, very conservative number. I think honestly, winning the lottery would be a lot more likely, fortunately.
I work for an airline and have flown with my family between 5-7 times a year without incident for 22 years.
Don't worry :)

Used to do but as you say, we all go down together. If its a choice between taking them on hols and giving them the experiences and memories or being worried about crashing then it's hols everytime.

no, you have more of a chance of crashing on the way to the airport than when you are on the plane so you shouldnt be scared unless you are flying some crapy cheap airline.

You have a greater chance of being knocked down while crossing the street.
If you ever were involved in an air crash, chances are you would survive.

Statistically there is more chance of being kicked to death by a donkey. Know how you feel though. You're just feeling extra protective with your kids.

Yes, I do. It's one thing to be responsible for yourself, but it's entirely another to be resposible for you kids. I always worry about them getting sick or hurt and not being able to comfort them as if I were at home.
